Lazy!?!? Are you lazy? Of course you are saying NO, but really, let’s do an inventory.
Do you wake up tired? Haha! That’s not a valid question. MOST people wake up like that. You still have sleepy in your eye and you are stumbling to the bathroom, right? Let’s start again.
Do you find yourself sitting in front of the television the minute you get home or soon after?
Do you look at the laundry and wish there was a fairy laundry mother? (ok, we all do that!)
Do you find ways to get other people to do things for you that you should really do yourself?
Is your yard overgrown, the dust bunnies in your house having a war under your couch or your car piled up with junk you can’t even identify anymore?
THESE might be signs of laziness. I could go on, but why? I’m sure you get my point.
Today, while listening to the Daily Audio Bible (DAB app! Get it!), the Proverbs said something about laziness and I thought WOW, God warns us about everything –EVEN LAZINESS!!! We’ve all heard about idle hands, right? Seriously, look:
I passed by the field of a sluggard ((lazy, sluggish person)), by the vineyard of a man lacking sense, and behold, it was all overgrown with thorns; the ground was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down. Then I saw and considered it; I looked and received instruction. A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man. Proverbs 24:30-34 (ESV)
There are some consequences of being lazy. That makes you think! There are so many other consequences too. Being lazy and inactive makes you SLOW. It makes your muscles inactive and then comes the aches and pains. If you keep moving and stimulating your body, yes, exercising–you help keep up what GOD gave you. He didn’t mean for us to be idle. He wants us to be A GOOD BUSYBODY, not like the busybody mentioned below. So, get up, get movin!
As I mentioned before, you know what they say about idle hands?! They are the devil’s workshop, playhouse or tool. I’ve seen several different versions of the quote. What does it mean? If your hands are idle, your brain probably is too. If you don’t have a purpose, a drive, a GOAL, then it’s so easy for the devil to use you. EW. No thanks.
Here’s what it says in the Bible too …
For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “If a man will not work, he shall not eat.” We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat. And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right. If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of him. Do not associate with him, in order that he may feel ashamed. Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother. 2Thessalonians 3:10-15 NIV
I love the Bible! Right there–It says if you are lazy, you should not be associated with. That’s sad. What a lonely life. And you are a “busybody!?” This is such a negative thing to be referred to! The definition of busybody: a person who meddles or pries into the affairs of others. EEEEK! No thanks, yet again. It also says others should warn you about your laziness. It’s our job as fellow Christians to help those around us who are lazy by warning them. So, am I calling YOU out? I’m not sure. Am I?
By the way, if you didn’t know, that busybody up at the top was Mrs. Kravitz on the BEWITCHED television show that ran from 1964 through 1972.
