There’s a lot of things in this world you can’t change. You can’t change what just happened. The moment is GONE. You can take back words or actions. Life doesn’t come with a big pink eraser or some whiteout. It’s REAL TIME…REALITY (and I’m not talking TV). Think about one little moment. What you do with a moment in the words you say can be uplifting or down-turning. What do you want?
I saw a quote on a fellow teacher’s board that read: ” Vocabulary …because right or wrong, everyone judges you by the words you use. ” Now, I’m certain that she was trying to get students to think about how important it is to know words and use them correctly and especially see the importance of expanding your vocabulary.
To me, I think this quote is so deep. You are judged most by the words that come out of your mouth and of course the actions you play out, but WORDS–words are so important. Sometimes we sling them around without thinking about their importance at all. People listen to you even when you think you are just talking to yourself. (yes, I do this a lot!)
I get the point that the teacher was really trying to get across. We should broaden our vocabulary. We should want to learn more words, but also about how to use our words. How should we use our words? Again, a choice.
We should guard our mouths. The Bible says …
The one who guards his mouth protects his life; the one who opens his lips invites his own ruin. Proverbs 13:3 (HCS)
How’s that for some TRUTH! Vocab is important, yes, but no matter what vocabulary you have to use, it’s most important to use it for GOD’S purpose and guard your mouth so it doesn’t ruin your moment.
