We all have examples. Some are good, some are bad. My mom and dad were both strong examples in my life. I had my dad for 26 years and my mom for 36 years here on this earth. I know it’s already decided, but I sure hope I get to see them both again one day.
I am, for many reasons, who I am because of their examples. After any example is given, though, it is our choice to create our own examples.
I believe a lot of people blame their parents for their own bad choices. “My parents did it so, I do.” That is junk. Today, I’m blaming my parents for helping me with some GOOD choices, no matter what their example. I thank GOD for giving them to me and directing me through them and all the other examples He has placed and will place in my life.
Examples and choices…
My dad loved to learn.
I choose to be a life-long learner.
My mom was a great cook.
I choose to be a chef for my family.
My dad had a strong work ethic.
I choose to work hard at anything I do. No 2-percenting, ever.
My mom forgave quickly.
I choose to forgive as quick as I can.
My dad smoked cigarettes.
I choose to be smoke-free.
My mom supported my brother and I in everything we were involved in.
I choose to support my children the same way.
My dad gave selflessly to others that I felt didn’t deserve it.
I choose to continuously and consciously work on this one.
My mom loved her friends unconditionally.
I choose this same kind of love to give.
My dad was an encourager.
I choose to encourage.
My dad was an alcoholic.
I choose not to be an alcoholic.
My mom had little self-esteem.
I choose to have a positive self-image.
I pray I can continue to use their examples (and all the ones to come) to help influence my GOOD choices.
I challenge you to do the same with YOUR EXAMPLES.
