What do we need?
We NEED oxygen, we NEED water, we NEED food.
It’s hard to discern from things we need and want at times. Do we need another doughnut? HA…nope! (if you have read my previous doughnut comments, you’ll know I don’t want the FIRST one. Ew.)
Do we NEED another pair of shoes, a purse that costs way too much or, let me switch this to a man voice… another gun, another deer lease or another tool of some kind. I know, I know, I’m meddling. I’m getting in your business.
Seriously though, I type these blogs most all of the time as a “note to self.” I know I need to hear (and type) this blog. I am reminding myself.
I’ve been praying for some items I want. I want, don’t need. I would like to have these things, because they would make my life some better, maybe a bit more comfortable. I promise I’m not asking for a sack full of a hundred dollar bills, but I might as well be. I’m asking for some big stuff. I’m not doing it arrogantly. I’m not doing it in a spoiled-brat kind of way. I know that God is not some Santa Claus or a short order cook. He is the almighty God. So, I’ve adjusted my prayers to ask God to get me more into His light. I want to be closer to Him. Oh yes, I want that new car, but I’d rather drive a beat up 1972 Ford Pinto and have Jesus than the nicest vehicle ever and not have Him! And I don’t really need a new car… I NEED JESUS!
(ok, this Pinto is pretty sweet…haha!)
This reminds me of this verse:
For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. -Matthew 16:25
Please, Lord, help me to ask for the things I truly need and not the things I just want. I want to be closer to you. I want to be blessed by You with the things YOU know are good for me. Those blessings are above everything else, because you are above all.
Another verse to remember:
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
-Isaiah 55: 8-9
What do we need?
JESUS is what we need.
