IT HAPPENED AGAIN IN MY CAREER! I had a student gasp at the fact that I had to go to college to get my art teaching job. Wow. This was another bump in the road of this fabulous Thursday.
First, I wake up with a headache. Second, I had a list of crazy to do when I got to work. Third…BAM! “You don’t have to know anything to be an art teacher.”
I gave myself a short break to go get a drink of water and remember THIS IS A CHILD and really has no idea what she is saying. It’s like when I was 23 and my middle school kids told me they thought I was 45. haha! They just have no clue.
Really. At 23, I looked 23! I promise!
So, how do I defend myself to a child that believes I am stupid? I don’t. I don’t have to. I know that I’m intelligent. I know that she has no idea what I had to go through to get this job. I know that I worked in college just like every other college student. She doesn’t even understand how to get out of high school yet.
Do I need her approval? Nope.
I have a degree. I have a job. I am a confidently wonderful art teacher. I’m an ARTIST. I’m a teacher. My headache is pretty much gone. My list is shorter. I’m happy.
I was so honored to get to paint our elementary campus’s front doors and windows. Their theme this year is the acronym H.A.P.P.Y. which stands for HAVE A POSITIVE PRODUCTIVE YEAR. What an awesome way to welcome your students every day… With big colorful smiles! I had so much fun doing this…
A friend/co-worker of mine shared this t-shirt on my FB page today. I LOVE IT! What I love most is when I read that it makes me get even MORE excited about this coming Monday. I *GET* to go back to work after summer vacation. I’m so blessed. I, of course, love my summer, but WOW, DO I LOVE MY JOB! I do! Some people think I’m nuts. I’m cool with that. I am nuts about the job God has given me.
Because…I truly believe in this verse right here:
Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men, -Colossians 3:23 (HCSB)
We are SUPPOSED to be excited about our work…
Enthusiastic about our daily jobs… here’s another version of the verse:
Whatever you do, work at it wholeheartedly as though you were doing it for the Lord and not merely for people.
(International Standard Version)
I love that..WHOLEHEARTEDLY! Do it with all your heart. (BIG HUGE CRAZY SMILEY FACE HERE)
I have this saying hanging in my shop: Love what you do and you will never work a day in your life.
Here’s another one: Make your vocation your vacation.
And let’s not forget to do this:
I thank God for my WONDERFUL job where I get to teach some AWESOME kiddos, work with some SASSY people AND they all love me even though I’m CRAZY!
It’s the middle of the week and it’s felt like a Friday all day. I certainly love every day of the week (I’m an equal opportunity kinda gal), but Friday just always seems a little FREE-ER …I know you know the feeling. I’m really unsure why today felt like Friday, but here’s my bullet form theories…
- I started teaching my FAVORITE unit in Art I today: ANIMATION! I love Walt DISNEY AND Mickey and they are all up in that lesson plan.
- My sculpture class is doing plaster casting of their hands and it’s a super fun experience to have with them. I love my job!
- The Spaghetti dinner and 5K events that took a lot of time and energy to put together was completed last weekend. YAY!
- My girl child got an EXCELLENT report card today, found out she had a .439 batting average for her softball season this year and I’m just so proud of that kid!
- I laughed out loud A LOT today. I always have fun at work because I love my job (did I say that already) and who I work with, but today just seemed more joy-filled for whatever reason. Everyone was a comedian today! Love that!
- We are having company this weekend which always makes me get a little excited no matter who it is. I really like being a host.
- The sermon tonight at our Wednesday night meeting was all about how GOD loves us. I knew this, of course, but the way the preacher presented it really gave me a stronger outlook on the fact. GOD MADE THIS EARTH ESPECIALLY FOR US… He made us on purpose AND sacrificed His Son for us. What more confirmation do we need!?!
Ok, there ya go. I’m sure there are more reasons I could give for the feeling of “Friday” freedom I had all day today, but maybe I’ll save them for another blog.
I hope for you a great “Friday” freedom kind of day… Even when it’s not Friday!
I love this quote. It’s by, as you can see, a very intelligent man. It was said that he had an IQ of 160. That is a number to tell you about his “smartness.” I can only imagine his attitude, demeanor and wit. Reading some of his quotes and other things that have been written about him makes me think he definitely had a mixture of book smart, street smart and social smart. BLESSINGS!
Anyway, THIS QUOTE below is one of those where I’m like, “RIGHT??!!??”
The person who illustrated this quote is very talented as well. If you want to look at some of their other works, you can click here. She has a ton of beautiful things!
WHO SAYS ARTISTS AREN’T INTELLIGENT? Albert Einstein, one of the smarties himself, didn’t. (or at least that is what this quote says to me)
I am creative. I am artistic. I am intelligent.
Why does the sight of that crazy little mouse that was sketched out by Walt Disney so many years ago make my face smile before I even think about it?
I see those ears and just think JOY!
Some people see $$$ and think of the amount of money it takes to go to a Disney Park. I know it takes a chunk of change, but when our family went there a couple of years ago, it truly was MAGICAL.
I feel like Mickey is my friend. I KNOW HIM! I mean, he hugged me! I was at his “house” there in Orlando and he introduced me to so many of his fellow Disney family members. That makes us tight, right?
Well, either way, that is the way I feel about it.
The fact that he is so ALIVE NOW …and he just started as pencil and paper is amazing to me. It’s like every artist’s dream…to have their creation touch others positively. Walt Disney started something that, I’m sure, he didn’t realize would be this big. I’m certain he knew it would be great, but really…ALL THIS!?! His vision and creativity ended up being the sparks that built this enormous fire of awesomeness!
I love the awe in eyes of all ages when they see THE MOUSE …or other characters.
AND even though I know there is a person in that mouse outfit…
I love Mickey!
p.s. I wanna go back to Disney World. Just sayin.
Here’s one of my t-shirt creations below. I used freezer paper to make the stencil. The paint is nail polish! I also used a black sharpie to do the outline.
I washed the shirt afterwards in cold water and hung it up to dry.
