TIME SLIPS BY!

It’s almost been a month since I’ve posted anything on this awesome blog.  That is crazy!

It’s just another example of how time slips by!  The last almost month has been full of so many things I can reflect upon.

The close of the school year always has me thinking about the great positives that this year brought.  I know some negative things happened, but as usual, I choose to focus on the positives.  I understand the negatives help us learn too, but the positives are the things we want to repeat or build on the most.

Positives…

Well, first we made it to today!  DUHHHHH!  Some people never ever never look at it like that, but really, think about it. YOU MADE IT! Yay!

Successes:  There were so many at OCHS!  We had teams win district, go to playoffs and succeed like never before.  We had our academics soar like eagles, art works bring medals home, ag kids go to state and smiles on faces that some thought would never appear!  We had teachers do great things through lessons, extra curricular and life-long learning experiences.  We had successful pep-rallies, 5ks and one of the best field days we call “COLOR WARS” we’ve ever had.  Our principals are amazing.  Our teachers are super awesome.  Our students…THE REASON we do what we do!

Personally, I’ve felt pride and honor in teaching students, joy in working with co-workers and happiness in living the life of a Clawson.

My own children have grown another year and they don’t cease to amaze me in the things they can do. God blesses me with more POSITIVES than I could have ever imagined!

Looking at memories of the year, of the last decade of just yesterday, I can say I KNOW time does slip by, but I say that in a positive light.  I do not mourn for yesterday.  I rejoice in the fact that yesterday happened and that today is happening and that tomorrow is gonna bring wonderful new things to add to my TIME here.

While traveling through, this world of sorrow,  I’m on my way to Gloryland.  I’ll not turn back for some tomorrow, my trails here–I’LL UNDERSTAND.

That is from the I WANT TO KNOW MORE song.  I see trials as just what we go through.  They may be positive or negative.  Either way, we will understand one day why it all happened and until then I will be in constant THANKSGIVING for it all!

Time does slip by!  …but oh what a wonderful ride it is!

My People!

Today we donned our new
“We are OC”

shirts the boss got for us.

I loved matching my co-workers. It might seem kind of goofy to others, but to me, it was like being part of a cool club. I loved the unity.

I love to see the pride we all take in our work and our school. I especially love to be a part of all the excitement we have for Monday.

We get to usher a new year in with our students! (BIG CRAZY SMILEY FACE HERE)

I thank God for my OC family.

They are MY PEOPLE!

Here are a few pics of the crazy group as we were going outside to pose for this year’s campus photo:

 Like I said, MY PEOPLE!

And to end this blog today, I want to praise and thank God for blessing OCHS with two leaders that are HIS people. It’s a great feeling to have bosses who know Jesus. I truly have been blessed throughout my years as a teacher to have Godly administrators.

They were both a little worried when I wanted to take a picture of them today, because apparently I’m a bit malicious when it comes to embarrassing photos or videos. Not the case today! I wanted to show these two off as my blessings…

My people, but most of all—

GOD’S PEOPLE.

LANARA

Have you ever met someone that you instantly loved?  I’m not talking about couple love at first sight stuff.  I’m talking about the beginning of a friendship that you know will withstand the test of time.

Have you ever felt comfortable in the presence of another person within the first few minutes of your arrival?  Then, the longer you stay, the more comfort and peace you experience.  It’s a crazy awesome feeling.

I was so blessed to be able to meet Lanara Southard in Pensacola, Florida this past Thursday.  Not only did I get to meet her, but I also had the pleasure of experiencing her hospitality.  She is a lovely example of true southern hospitality.

Lanara is not JUST hospitable, but also very caring, loving, complimentary and full of JESUS’ love.  The latter, of course, is what leads to all the former.  With Jesus in her heart and the ruler of her life, she is able to show those around her such abounding love, it’s quite breathtaking.

She is one of the cutest ladies I’ve ever met.  I love to hear her tell jokes.  Her laugh is contagious.  Her energy is exhausting!  Seriously, she ran circles around all the others who were most graciously accepted into her home.  I loved to see her bounce from one task to another!  Such vigor and vitality!  Her husband Howard just smiles as she buzzes around.  He’s just as cute as she is!

She says charming little things like, “Heavens to Pete.” and “Hot as blue blazes.”

Lanara is such a GODLY example.  She has such wisdom and advice.  That makes her sound like she might be “old.”  But as our mutual friend Tammy says, “Not old, just older than you used to be.”  Lanara is far from old!   She has such wit, an enormous zest for life and a sweet spirit that makes you love her instantly.

She wants to be like Nehemiah (from the Bible), because he was an encourager and never gave up.  I’m a witness, she is ALREADY there!  She told me she was proud of me, that I was a thinker and she loved me while I was there.  Those were all such encouraging compliments and made me feel absolutely wonderful.  Words of affirmation are way up there in my love language hierarchy.  (www.5lovelanguages.com)

She shared many stories about the power of prayer.  She had many more, I’m certain she could have shared.  She said it’s important to have a lot of prayer and common sense.  What a statement!

She teaches a Sunday School class of a hundred plus women.  I was so honored to be able to be in her class. She said so many things about our victory when Jesus comes.  One thing I thought was the cutest and that which I will never forget: “When the horn toots, WE SCOOT.”  That gives me such joy and puts a huge smile on my face!

She fed us like queens, took care of our every need and allowed us to feel like we were in our own home.  I ate way too much and snacked on cashews so much that my body is going through withdrawals right now from not having a few today!

I know that everyone that enters Lanara’s life feels the same way I feel about her.  If they are able to be a guest in her home, I truly know they are blessed beyond measure!

Thank you Tammy (my friend who took me on this trip) for leading me to Lanara!

Thank you Lanara for being YOU!  You are a true inspiration!

YOU complete me.

I am just a gal. One person. I have no super powers. I don’t claim to be able to do everything.  Sounds kind of boring huh?  No frills, no thrills.

Just me.

BUT, I am a

fearfully and wonderfully

made human being.

I have talents and abilities that others in my circle may not. They need me. They not only need me, but I in turn need them.  They complete me. I know that is usually used in marriage terms, but it’s true in other relationships too.

I believe that all of these people are divine appointments. That means GOD CHOSE THEM FOR ME!!!  Every single one of them. Wow!

All those around me are put in my life for a purpose. I admit the purpose is not always noticeable right at first, but it most always surfaces quickly.

I just want to give GOD all the glory for this.  I praise Him and thank HIM for helping me through His people!  I especially thank Him for His Son!

Lord, YOU complete me.

Thank You Lord!

Amen.

SELFIE ❤️😜

The selfie… We all have one…

But my faves are when I’m with people I absolutely LOVE!

 Just sharing!

It really is simple.

So my friend who used to be my boss posted this blog about the ONE WORD.  He’s a pretty smart guy and had asked his faculty to send him a word… I will let you go read his blog: PLEASE CLICK HERE TO READ HIS BLOG FIRST.

…and watch the ONE WORD video there…

Here’s part of my message I posted to his blog:

You know I can’t narrow my life to one word…THAT WOULD BE TOO SIMPLE! ALTHO–The word that has been repeating itself in my mind over and over for several days now in the face of all kinds of crazy life stuff (nothing bad, just life) is LOVE. I know I love, but do I love like I’m supposed to? Do I ALWAYS love like I’m supposed to? I don’t when I blow up at my kids or feel defeated looking at my laundry which has become like Mount Rushmore (serious, with faces and everything) …

I GOTTA REMEMBER TO LOVE in all circumstances. NO MATTER WHAT IS GOING ON!  People may hate on me, children may say my name like a broken record (ha!  kids these days don’t even know what “broken record” means) and I might feel stressed by stuff going on around me…BUT LOVE DOESN’T LOSE IT’S COOL…Love shows LOVE.  Love creates LOVE.  Love shows mercy and grace and brings on comfort and peace.
I want to LOVE like Jesus loves us.
LOVE!

It really is simple.

The D word.

I didn’t blog yesterday on THE DAY.  I knew I probably wouldn’t.  We are always busy going from one place to another.  Once we were home, I got into bed as soon as I could.  I believe I slept for about 12 hours! haha!  I don’t do that often at all!

Christmas was wonderful.  It truly was.  My face ached many times from laughing or smiling continuously–and not the fake smiling we sometimes do when posing for pictures–my face was truly feeling the event.  My side ached a little from it as well.  We had fun!

The event was a little different than usual.  We saw some family we hadn’t in quite a few Christmases…then there were some close ones absent for the first time.  This did not diminish the joy of the Christmas occasion, but it did make it somewhat different.  The ones separated from us missed out on another awesome time together.

Death did not separate us…but another D word did.

Death is inevitable, we will all do that someday unless, of course, Jesus comes before we die.  Either way, what a wonderful day that will be.  (Reminds me of a song…What a day that will be…when my Jesus I shall see…)

The other d word I’m referring to– although very inevitable– seems to happen in our world more times than not.  It creeps up into the happiest of circumstances and the most harmonious of families.  It works its way into joyful times and tears apart the best of friends.  The devil loves it, he dances in it…he creates it.

We call some of the television programs we watch the D word.  The d word can be described several ways.  Here’s one definition I found:

It is the specific mode of fiction represented in performance.  The term comes from a Greek word meaning action, which is derived from the verb meaning to do or to act.

Here’s another:

a composition in prose or verse presenting in dialogue or pantomime story involving conflict or contrast of character, especially one intended to be acted on the stage; a play.

I know these definitions refer more to a play or performance, but in our lives, they pretty much happen the same way.  A person creates some type of opinion about a person or a circumstance then acts out, most of the time negatively, on their opinion.  They create fictional dialogue and premeditate the outcome.

Most of the time this involves misunderstandings

which then lead to mis-communications,

throw in some name calling and lies

and wahhhh lahhhhhhh….

THE D WORD!

Yep, the ole D word…

But I’m just gonna tell you along with the stinky little devil… the D word DID NOT stop the celebration of our LORD, KING AND SAVIOR being born!  It didn’t stop the meal from being prepared, the hugs, smiles or big ole belly roll laughing!  It didn’t stop the bright eyes or surprises that good company or perfect hospitality brought.  It didn’t stop the true meaning of our CHRISTMAS STORY.  It didn’t stop it…it can’t stop it.   No matter how much the D word tries to invade, destroy and conquer… it has no power.

GOD sent us our power.  He sent us the hope for peace and happiness.  HE sent us THE REASON FOR THIS SEASON and the d word has no place in the unfolding of this story.  THE REASON for the season has victory over anything that comes with the d-word.  Jesus is peace, hope and love which are total opposites of the d-word.

HE IS THE REASON FOR THIS SEASON.

Pray for those who don’t look to HIM first.  (on all days of the year)

Pray for those who love the d-word more than the gifts HE brings.

Find VICTORY in what JESUS brought.

HE IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!

(not the d-word…not ever the d-word)

Wood signs and Friendship

Ok,so I love my friend Dan’Na!
She got me to go to this wood sign workshop with her and we create these masterpieces below. It was different being made fun if by the others there that weren’t very artistically talented, but I made it through. I got to play with some chalk paint and even got to use a power tool! (A sander)

Excitement sharpens Excitement!

Just recently, I was so honored to serve on staff at a TEXAS Association of Student Councils Summer Leadership Workshop. We were at SFA there in Nacogdoches and I was the Advisors Consultant. It was such a fun time, because not only was I able to share at our advisor sessions, but I learned so much from the other advisors, got to see my super student council friends and met so many new fun and interesting people. Connections are so important and they truly do energize you!

Check this out:
As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭27‬:‭17‬ NLT)
Excitement sharpens excitement!

I came home excited about so many things. I have new ideas, a new outlook on some old projects and a renewed attitude toward this vocation and calling I know GOD has blessed me with. Charging your batteries is something we must all take time to do and this workshop did just that for me!

This workshop also reminded me that being a life long learner helps keep that excitement as well. It also helps keep ya feeling young! It might even hold those wrinkles and grey hair back. (Lotion and hair dye helps a little too…hehe) So, keep learning!

Check this out:
If you stop learning, you will forget what you already know. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭19‬:‭27‬ CEV)
I don’t want to forget what I know!!!

Make connections.
Keep learning.
Stay excited…
Excitement sharpens excitement!!!

Thank you TASC for this workshop opportunity and thank you to all those who attended those fun, learning-full, EXCITING advisor sessions!!!

Here’s my excited face:

I thank God for great people He has put in my life.

I’m so blessed to know the people I do.
God has given me people in my life that confirm to me that HE is real. He uses people. I love to witness it. I love when He uses me too!
I have had conversations or experienced things with co-workers, friends, etc. that have helped me grow as a professional, as a friend and as a person. I thank God for these people so much!

The person I want to thank God for today (and whom I’ve thanked Him for several times in the last ten years) is my soon-to-be ex-boss, Scot Wright. I’m NOT brown-nosing here or trying to get any kind of points, you see, because he won’t be the one “taking score” on our campus this year. (if there truly is some kind of point system anyway)

In the last ten years I’ve seen him grow as an administrator and a leader. I liked him pretty instantly as a boss and it didn’t take much longer to figure out he is a great guy. He is a positive person, a dedicated person and what’s really cool: A LIFE LONG LEARNER. ((You know I love to learn!)) I know that the life long learner thing is turning into quite the buzz word here lately, but he was one of these way before it was “cool.” His character and personality is one of those that makes anyone like him quickly. He smiles, he laughs and definitely jokes around, but he can also be very serious and passionate about learning, leading and things that are important and vital to the well-being and education of our students.

Personally, he has been one of my greatest cheerleaders. He suggested I start this blog one summer and here I am a couple of years later with 737 posts and 346 followers, plus I created another blog for my class. He has encouraged me and helped me and supported me when he knew I needed it the most. He’s made me feel super smart when others have judged me as a dumb art teacher. He’s seen me cry and didn’t make fun of me. (yay!) Not being able to go in his office this upcoming school year and just sit there and talk about whatever is what I’m most sad about. I won’t be able to ask him questions about what form to fill out–a check request or purchase order (I never remember) OR ask advice about some crazy project my student council wants to try out. I won’t be able to lose my keys and have him laugh at me OR gripe at him about the bathroom and how the toilet won’t flush EVERYTHING and some people are totally against double flushing! Ew. HA! There have been quite a few times he’s made me laugh so hard about something that I keep thinking about and laughing for days. I will surely miss all that.

BUT I do have to say…I’m so happy for Mr. Wright, his lovely wife and their two kiddos. I’m sure it’s exciting to think of the opportunities he will have at his new job. His new place of employment will be fresh territory for him to share all the great attributes he possesses (that I’ve already mentioned…and more). His children, no doubt will do great at their new school. This move will be a wonderful adventure for all of them.

I’m so thankful that God allowed me to have him as my boss for ten WHOLE years. This man loves his family. He loves people. Most of all, and best of all, He loves God. It’s so awesome to work for someone who loves God.

He kids around a little too much sometimes (he made me seriously cry when he took a joke to far one time, but that is for some other blog) and at times, it’s hard to know when he’s being serious, but when he told me he took a job at a different school, I knew he was not joking. When he called me today to thank me for being great (another reason he’s great…he recognizes awesomeness…hehe), we agreed that staying in touch was important. Our girls are the same age and they will want to remain close, I’m sure. His wife is one of those people I can laugh out loud with at such crazy things (CHEWY!) no matter how long it’s been since we’ve seen each other. We gotta have another “girl day” soon!

So, even though I’m saying good-bye to Mr. Wright, I’m saying HELLO SCOT! (may I call you Scot now?!?) haha! I know I probably could have the entire time, but I call everyone at work by their last name. I’m not even sure I can call him Scot!

I know God put this family in my family’s life for purpose and again, I thank Him for it. This is NOT “good-bye” for real, this is just “I won’t see your face everyday, but we will still be friends forever no matter what!” Haha! Sounds like we need to have some kind of blood pact now. We can skip that part.

I thank God for great people He has put in my life.
May God bless Mr. Wright and his family in all! ((GO REBELS! …had to do that))

Want to follow a great, super cool life long learner?
Check Scot out on twitter @scot_wright.
His profile pic has a canvas in the background I made for him: LEARN …cuz IT IS WHAT IT IS (had to put that in there…it’s a total inside joke, sorry)
