Beautiful Things

I’m sure we can all agree that a sunset is one of the most beautiful things in the world.  I would say sunrise too, but a lot of people don’t tend to see those.  I didn’t realize this until a few weeks ago when someone mentioned that.  I never thought about it, but I admit, I’ve seen more sets than rises.  Either way, BEAUTIFUL.  Am I right?

Other things … flowers blooming, a river flowing, birds soaring, a sweet little baby face smiling big …  Yes?

There are so many beautiful things in this life. I know we all have our list.

I’ve seen some things that made me tilt my head and just say, “Awwww… that is beautiful.”  Maybe you haven’t thought of these things or maybe you wouldn’t see them as beautiful.  Just let me share.  You can agree or disagree.  Either way, these are BEAUTIFUL THINGS to me.

  • A person, no matter their talent, singing to the top of their lungs praising my God!
  • A man or woman raising their arms in part of the song where it compels them.
  • People with eyes closed listening to music that makes them instantly worship.
  • Heads bowed in prayer at the invitation time given by the preacher.
  • Faces lifted to be connected to the one they know created them.
  • People holding hands to connect with each other in prayer.
  • Fellowship.  Friendship.  Love.

I hope you are blessed to see such things as beautiful.

We need to remember that are beautiful things in this world that sometimes we take for granted.  There are so many ugly things in this world that don’t need to keep our attention.  I challenge you to look to the good…look to the beauty.

If you’re happy and you know it…

You know that song… sing it with me:

If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands. (clap clap)
Just thinking about that song makes me think of younger years when we liked to act a whole lot more silly than we do now.  I still like to act silly, but it’s frowned upon by my age peers.  I guess that is why I teach, but even some of the high schoolers I teach are “too old” to have fun anymore.  Some think I’m just the crazy art teacher.  I’m good with that.  It’s guaranteed that they will remember me!
Are you needing some fun today?
Don’t you remember finger painting, playing in the mud and riding a bike?  What are the things you thought of when you jumped out of the bed in the summer time –usually way passed 10 or even passed noon?
I always thought of who I was going to play with that day.  What friend could I coax out of the a/c to run the roads with?  What kind of fort could we build that day out of sticks or pine straw or just piles of dirt.  Could we create the perfect floor plan for my future mansion?  Would my dad let us ride in the back of the truck later (when he got home from work) to the local store to get a coke and some peanuts or even some chocolate?
I never ever worried about unloading the dishwasher, making my bed or paying bills.  I never thought of the vitamins I needed to take or what shoes would be comfortable to wear today.  I never concerned myself with dusting (gag!), what I was going to cook for dinner or any type of national news.
I know times change and you are like, what is the point?  I’m not sure what the point is really.  Maybe I will get to it in a minute.
I know as adults we have different responsibilities and different mindsets.  We have deadlines and “bigger fish to fry” as they say.  (yes, some say that)  We are concerned with things that we never even knew about as a kid.
I’m not saying all this so we can neglect our important obligations and go ride a bike or make a mud pie.  I don’t really like to touch mud anymore (that’s another story).
I am just saying…
Sometimes we need to dress up like a cow on COW APPRECIATION DAY @Chick-fil-a and eat some free nuggets!  Don’t be scared to have some crazy-people are
going to look at you like you have lost all your marbles-kind of fun.   Maybe this doesn’t include face paint,  a white shirt with big black spots, floppy ears or singing IF YOU’RE HAPPY AND YOU KNOW IT to a restaurant full of people…
Maybe you just need to de-stress by worrying less.
Perhaps you need to ride a bike.  I’d say borrow the neighbor kid’s bike, but a lot of kids don’t have bikes these days.  I hate that for them, because riding down a hill with the wind in your face is a very awesome experience.  I know why dogs like to stick their heads out of the window going down the road!
Get up where you are now and do some jumping jacks like you did in elementary PE class.  If that don’t make you laugh …or even pee a little… you need more drastic measures.
Or maybe you just need to sing the song…
but make sure you tell your face to show it!  Smiling alone can turn not only a frown upside down, but a day away from “Ug” to “WooooHoooo!”

If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands. (clap clap)

TIME SLIPS BY!

It’s almost been a month since I’ve posted anything on this awesome blog.  That is crazy!

It’s just another example of how time slips by!  The last almost month has been full of so many things I can reflect upon.

The close of the school year always has me thinking about the great positives that this year brought.  I know some negative things happened, but as usual, I choose to focus on the positives.  I understand the negatives help us learn too, but the positives are the things we want to repeat or build on the most.

Positives…

Well, first we made it to today!  DUHHHHH!  Some people never ever never look at it like that, but really, think about it. YOU MADE IT! Yay!

Successes:  There were so many at OCHS!  We had teams win district, go to playoffs and succeed like never before.  We had our academics soar like eagles, art works bring medals home, ag kids go to state and smiles on faces that some thought would never appear!  We had teachers do great things through lessons, extra curricular and life-long learning experiences.  We had successful pep-rallies, 5ks and one of the best field days we call “COLOR WARS” we’ve ever had.  Our principals are amazing.  Our teachers are super awesome.  Our students…THE REASON we do what we do!

Personally, I’ve felt pride and honor in teaching students, joy in working with co-workers and happiness in living the life of a Clawson.

My own children have grown another year and they don’t cease to amaze me in the things they can do. God blesses me with more POSITIVES than I could have ever imagined!

Looking at memories of the year, of the last decade of just yesterday, I can say I KNOW time does slip by, but I say that in a positive light.  I do not mourn for yesterday.  I rejoice in the fact that yesterday happened and that today is happening and that tomorrow is gonna bring wonderful new things to add to my TIME here.

While traveling through, this world of sorrow,  I’m on my way to Gloryland.  I’ll not turn back for some tomorrow, my trails here–I’LL UNDERSTAND.

That is from the I WANT TO KNOW MORE song.  I see trials as just what we go through.  They may be positive or negative.  Either way, we will understand one day why it all happened and until then I will be in constant THANKSGIVING for it all!

Time does slip by!  …but oh what a wonderful ride it is!

AWESOME, not perfect

I was born to be AWESOME! (not perfect)

‪#‎thankfulEVERYday‬ for JESUS!

Perfection is our worse enemy.  I’ve heard this, but never really thought about it in depth.  I mean, I agreed with the statement, but never stopped to think about it means–exactly.

I know comparison can get ugly if we are trying to compare ourselves to others.  You will never be something you aren’t.  Your physical self is created by God.  If you are obsessing about how it may not be “perfect,” you are messing with HIS creation.  He made you!  You want to argue with HIM?  I know we do a lot of times, but ALWAYS remember, WE WILL NEVER WIN.

We can strive to be a better person and even have role models to look to, but if you so want to be that person that it gets in the way with what GOD has for you, that is some dangerous stuff!

I know God made me to be Awesome.  He tells me in the Bible stuff like this:

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

EPHESIANS 2:8-10 NLT

HE had great stuff already planned for me to do!  That blows my mind.

I’m so glad I chose and continue each day to choose JESUS.

I know He was perfect and I will try my best to be more and more like HIM…

But as I said up there:

I was born to be AWESOME! (not perfect)

‪#‎thankfulEVERYday‬ for JESUS!

Observe

I’m such an observer. Today, while at Dollywood I got to see a lot of things. I feel so blessed!
I saw a leader– a brother giving another brother some good advice …he asked his other sibling if he wanted to be the bigger guy or always be the one arguing with their sister. He might of been a cousin or something, but I saw it as an older brother trying to help out. He sounded so wise and he didn’t look much older than 12. The younger two were probably 6 or 7. It was quite inspirational.
I saw the cutest lady … Well, I saw many cute older people today. The cashier at the candy store was so sweet and the older man that let us ride the log ride twice through just made me smile. It was such a happy place.
I saw a river running over the rocks and heard the sound of its rush.
I saw the biggest apple pie I’ve ever seen–IN–MY–LIFE.
I’m so thankful every day for the things God allows me to see.
#thankfulEVERYday

To the Graduates of 2015

I have so many things I’d like to tell you.

Like always brush your teeth, dental hygiene is so important.

Always be nice to others and try to smell good.  Those around you really appreciate that.

Hug people you love. (you never know when they will be gone)

Look people in the eye when you speak to them.  (not at your phone)

SMILE A LOT!

Ok, physical things like that are so important, but the MORE important things that I want to tell you are mental and spiritual.

You have to mentally prepare yourself for life.  Stay mentally focused on the good you can achieve.  Imagine yourself successful!  Don’t just think it might happen, know that you are going to ROCK THIS LIFE!

I know there are days (many days maybe) you want to just veg out and watch Netflix all day, but don’t ever make that a lifestyle.  You are made for more than pajamas and 5 seasons of The Walking Dead.  You are!  Don’t aspire to be a 30 year old couch potato that still makes your mom do your laundry.  Yes, there are days to rest and recharge and watch Netflix all day, but don’t get addicted to those.  You are made to be AWESOME!  Get up, get out and go be AWESOME!

In order to stay focused on the good, you need to always remember WHO made you.  God made us to be His.  He didn’t make mistakes or oopsies…HE MADE A WONDERFUL CREATION –THAT –IS –YOU!  Allow Him to guide you.  Allow Him to council you and protect you. You have to listen and obey.  The more you do that, the better your journey will be.  I sure wish I had listened to Him soooooo much more when I was your age.  I wish I had discovered the power of prayer earlier in my life than I did as well.  I am telling you this so YOU can get on that NOW… and not later.   It won’t make your life perfect, but it will make your life so much better.  Your perspective will be much brighter and your outlook will be much clearer.  (I want to belt out: I CAN SEE CLEAARLY NOW, THE RAIN IS GONE… I CAN SEE ALL OBSTACLES IN MY WAY…)

To the Graduates of 2015:

I have been blessed by your presence in my life.

Whether you were in my class or not…

I am so proud of you.  I know you are going to keep doing great things.

Go be AWESOME!

Much Love, Mrs. Clawson 🙂

p.s. We can be facebook friends now!

EAT THE BROWNIES!

WHY!?!

This is another questioning blog today.  Why, Why, Why must people only look on the dark, ugly, nasty and gloomy side of life?  They wake up mad, go through the day spewing hate and bad breath (I just imagine) and then go to bed mad.

Why!?

Circumstance?  Past?  Baggage?  Constipation?  Upset stomach?

If you gave them a plate of chocolate chip cookies and told them have a happy day…they would think or even say, “I prefer brownies.”  Ok, if you gave them a plate of the best BROWNIES -in-the-world with a smiley face balloon and a chilly glass of milk… they would say, “I’m trying to watch what I eat.”   Really!?!  IT IS BROWNIES!  (the best ones in the world even)

Hersheysbrownies14

I’m pretty sure you get my point.

WHY!?!

Is this day so bad that you have to TRY (cuz it ain’t happening to this gal) and make others have a bad day too?  Would that actually make you “happy?”  OR would that somehow make your life, in some sick weird way, more meaningful?

NO.  I’m telling you right now, that is a NO.  Negative. Never, absolutely not, uh-uh and not at all.

Yes, I’m answering my own questions here.  It’s ok.  I do that sometimes.

It is most emphatically and positively truth that ATTITUDES ARE CONTAGIOUS.  Is yours worth catching?  When people look at me, I want them to WANT what I got!  I’m not hiding my light under a bushel–NO!  I’m gonna let it shine!  I am not extinguishing the fire of JOY the Almighty God has given me to share.  No way!  I’m gonna pass it out like goody bags at a birthday party!  Here’s one for you and you and you…

FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YOURSELF from the past baggage or circumstance that is darkening your days. Have a HAPPY!  Here, take a smile.  Do you need a hug?  Let go of whatever is making you look for the opposite of happy.  Take some Milk of Magnesia!  Whatever you gotta do!!!  But colon cleanse that nasty attitude OUT before you end up living your life alone or worse…with another stopped up negative nilly who can only compound the unhappiness in your life.  (Misery loves company? Eeeek!)

Do whatever you gotta do!!! Did I say that already?  Repetition means IT’S IMPORTANT!

Don’t be one of those people that can’t find happy anywhere…

DIG DEEP! Trudge through it.  Dust it off, wipe it away… until you find that treasure called HAPPINESS and …

JUST BE HAPPY.

(and eat the dadgum brownies!!!)
