I’m Up!

I’m up! I’m up and functional at 5:30 am on a Saturday morning. Not a regular work day but kind of.

After working basketball concession and the tortilla toss event all evening on a Friday night, getting home around 9:30, not winding down until about 11:30 and falling into some kind of slumber after that, I’m back up with my ready writers at a UIL event.  Yes, I’m up!

There are so many teachers that do this kind of thing all the time. We get up early and stay at work late. We support our students at athletic events, band concerts, agricultural shows, scholastic competitions and much more.  Sometimes we are there coaching, sometimes we are there just because. We want our students to know they are cared for and supported.  We want them to succeed in whatever they are involved in.

Some people say teachers have it so easy. We have a Monday through Friday job. (HA!) We have all the holidays off. (that IS nice, but not always true) We get the entire summer off. (Do you KNOW a teacher that truly does this???)

The summer months are nice because we do have more freedoms, but that’s after 36 weeks of an intense daily routine bombarded with other peoples’ children who come to us with all kinds of attitudes, moods, abilities and smells. I’m not griping about that, just stating it. The smells are sometimes objectionable, but for the most part, everything is all good.  Seriously, I love teaching.

What is the point of this blog?

Here ya go…

I want to remind everyone that there are teachers who really do go above and beyond their set job duties. They help, encourage and support their students. They teach not just reading, writing  and arithmetic.  They teach commitment, leadership, humbleness, putting others first and so much more!

So, I’m up!!! And I love what I do and love being around teachers who feel the same way about their job as I do.

I’M UP!!!

I believe ANYTHING is possible!

I believe that ANYTHING is possible.

I shake my head in disbelief at a lot of things.  I’m talking about shocking things like friends who one day decide you are not their friend, husbands (or wives) who decide their mate is just not who they love anymore and children who decide their parents have never really supported them.  I know life happens and people change their minds for all kinds of reasons, but sometimes, my mouth drops open and I’m like, “Whaaaaat?”

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

I’ve seen circumstances, events and people change on a dime and I never saw that coming!  It’s like some kind of CRAZY just entered and said, “Ok, I’m in charge now.”  AND THAT is exactly what happens …CRAZY walked in.  CRAZY took over.  CRAZY waltzed in all cocky like, sat down, kicked it’s feet up and settled in.

I’m talking about the CRAZY that makes us shake our heads, squint our eyes and scratch our noggin.  (again…”Whaaaat?”)

And CRAZY pops up like a weed in a sidewalk crack!  You are like WHERE did that come from and HOW is that growing out of cement?!?!?

That kind of crazy is like a fire that consumes the land.  It takes our breath away sometimes.  It makes us question ourselves.  It makes us DOUBT.  It makes us sad.  It makes us cry, scream, lament…

BUT LET’S FLIP THIS MESS…

Going back to my original statement: I believe ANYTHING is possible.

Crazy can be defeated.  God can give us all the tools we need to slay the crazy.  You can kick the crazy out of it’s easy chair, pull that weed up and throw it out!

ANYTHING is possible…

Relationships can be redeemed, love can grow again and we can move forward.  We can wipe our tears, restore our trust and move forward.

I know that sometimes crazy has made some kind of scar while it was visiting. Sometimes it might even cause us to remove something or someone from our lives that we never thought would have to go, but as I said, with GOD we can forgive, mend and move on.

We need to identify the crazy for what it is — it is the devil working.  Crazy chaos and insane drama is what he loves the most.  The nasty of this life is used by the devil to try and break us.  We must stand up and stand out and stand on the word of God!  Rebuke the devil by the BLOOD of JESUS CHRIST and defend yourself with the truths God has given us.

My life verse is NO WEAPON FORMED AGAINST ME SHALL PROSPER. -Isaiah 54:17

I hang on to that verse like a security blanket.  It comforts me when I whisper it. I’ve written it on my mirror, door jams, in permanent marker on my desk at work and is visible all around my daily life, because I know WITH GOD…

I believe ANYTHING is possible.

Random thoughts.

Do not send pictures of your toes to people you love.  It just ain’t right.

Don’t send pictures of your feet to anyone.  It’s awkward especially if they don’t really know you.  So awkward.

If your feet make noise when walking on any surface or catch on carpet, find the exfoliant and lotion fast!

Good manners and fresh breath never go out of style.

People should check their skirt before coming out of the bathroom.

Do not run over your mom’s heel with a shopping cart.

6th graders are not too young for deodorant.

Pit hair is just gross to look at. Do not include it in pictures.  It should go right along with toe pictures.  No, just no.

Bathroom etiquette should be required training  for  everyone just like confidentiality training is every year for teachers.

Fish or food items that look like vomit should not be brought to lunch wherever you work.

If you can smell yourself, others can too. Perhaps it’s time to bathe?

Crock pots are a mom’s best friend.

A million selfies a day does NOT help one’s self esteem.  It just shows others you have an issue with self image.  You are beautiful.  Except it please.

The duck face is OUT. Snap filters are IN!

Keep on Keepin on!

If you’re happy and you know it…

You know that song… sing it with me:

If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands. (clap clap)
Just thinking about that song makes me think of younger years when we liked to act a whole lot more silly than we do now.  I still like to act silly, but it’s frowned upon by my age peers.  I guess that is why I teach, but even some of the high schoolers I teach are “too old” to have fun anymore.  Some think I’m just the crazy art teacher.  I’m good with that.  It’s guaranteed that they will remember me!
Are you needing some fun today?
Don’t you remember finger painting, playing in the mud and riding a bike?  What are the things you thought of when you jumped out of the bed in the summer time –usually way passed 10 or even passed noon?
I always thought of who I was going to play with that day.  What friend could I coax out of the a/c to run the roads with?  What kind of fort could we build that day out of sticks or pine straw or just piles of dirt.  Could we create the perfect floor plan for my future mansion?  Would my dad let us ride in the back of the truck later (when he got home from work) to the local store to get a coke and some peanuts or even some chocolate?
I never ever worried about unloading the dishwasher, making my bed or paying bills.  I never thought of the vitamins I needed to take or what shoes would be comfortable to wear today.  I never concerned myself with dusting (gag!), what I was going to cook for dinner or any type of national news.
I know times change and you are like, what is the point?  I’m not sure what the point is really.  Maybe I will get to it in a minute.
I know as adults we have different responsibilities and different mindsets.  We have deadlines and “bigger fish to fry” as they say.  (yes, some say that)  We are concerned with things that we never even knew about as a kid.
I’m not saying all this so we can neglect our important obligations and go ride a bike or make a mud pie.  I don’t really like to touch mud anymore (that’s another story).
I am just saying…
Sometimes we need to dress up like a cow on COW APPRECIATION DAY @Chick-fil-a and eat some free nuggets!  Don’t be scared to have some crazy-people are
going to look at you like you have lost all your marbles-kind of fun.   Maybe this doesn’t include face paint,  a white shirt with big black spots, floppy ears or singing IF YOU’RE HAPPY AND YOU KNOW IT to a restaurant full of people…
Maybe you just need to de-stress by worrying less.
Perhaps you need to ride a bike.  I’d say borrow the neighbor kid’s bike, but a lot of kids don’t have bikes these days.  I hate that for them, because riding down a hill with the wind in your face is a very awesome experience.  I know why dogs like to stick their heads out of the window going down the road!
Get up where you are now and do some jumping jacks like you did in elementary PE class.  If that don’t make you laugh …or even pee a little… you need more drastic measures.
Or maybe you just need to sing the song…
but make sure you tell your face to show it!  Smiling alone can turn not only a frown upside down, but a day away from “Ug” to “WooooHoooo!”

If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands. (clap clap)

10,000 steps

Where would 10,000 steps take you?

10,000 steps is my daily step goal.

That seems like a big number, but it’s only around 5 miles.  I have short little legs so it’s prob closer to 4 than it is 5.  Either way, that 10,000 number seems big until you convert it. I mean, look at all those zeros!

Even so, where can we go in four miles. Four miles is nothing to really scoff at for a short legged walker like me. For a walker of any type I would think it’s not a bad trek. For a runner I guess it is not real far.  For a driver, it’s nothing, especially if you live in a big city and commute many times that number to work.

So back to my question… Where can 10,000 steps take you?

At work, It takes me to the office and back about 100 times a day.

Really though, that’s not my goal or my point here…

We need to be taking steps for Jesus.

I wonder how many steps he took in his lifetime?  How many did he take on that road to the cross? I know, I know, I won’t really be worrying about those numbers when I get to actually see Jesus one day but for now, I can wonder.  I can!

Let’s take our steps with intent.  Let’s take our steps with a mission in mind.  I know leisurely strolls are nice or walking around the house in the evening to get to that step goal of the day is necessary sometimes like it was for me tonight.  I had 150 to go so I swept the house a few times before I got my PJs on. Ha!

Let’s put one foot in front of the other, moving forward to the goal while we work to get all those we can to walk with us!  Jesus did Easter so we could walk freely with the dwelling of the Holy Spirit.  AND so we can be in paradise one day. (AMEN!)  Let’s use those 10,000 steps to help others see Him.

Help others. Put others first. Love one another. Show people you love you love them. Show people who are hard to love LOVE ANYWAY.  Step out and step boldly for the cause of Jesus Christ, because in the end, the amount of miles you made aren’t really going to matter…it’s the direction you were going with each step you take.

Where are your 10,000 next steps going to take you?

The Re-gift. Not always a bad thing.

regiftSo, today, I was gifted with the RE-gift.

How do I know it was re-gifted, you ask?

It was not half eaten or even un-packaged.  It was not ripped, torn or had the to and from tags marked out.  It was still neatly attached to it’s original packaging.  It was in it’s perfect new, without tags condition.

How did I know… because I was the initial giver of the gift.

At work, we play the Secret Santa game the last week we are in school before the Christmas break.  Monday starts the fun and Friday is ended with the “big” gift given.  Each day, we give a small token of happiness to our giftee.

The Santa names are all randomly chosen and this year, it so happens that MY SECRET SANTA (the gifter) is also MY SECRET SANTA (the giftee).  We have each other!  So, when I saw my small token of happiness back in my box this morning, I KNEW who my gifter was.  There is no longer the secret that goes in the term Secret Santa.  No more info kept under a hat or mums the word…

It has been revealed with the re-gift!

Does it make me mad?  NO.  I like the gift I got back.  It’s a neat little pen that I had carefully chosen for my person, because it had a theme that I THOUGHT went perfectly with their subject matter.  I must of thought wrong.  Either that OR my person believed that I needed the little token more than they, because I THINK I listed that I liked school supplies on my Secret Santa get-to-know-me form.  Who knows.  Whatever the reason, I have the gift back.  And either way, I’m fine getting the re-gift.

IN FACT, I think I will re-re-gift it on Friday when we give our “bigger” gift.  Who knows, maybe I’ll have more re-re-gifts to put in their bag by then!  HAHA!

That “bigger” gift may be a lot bigger and better and funnier (and perhaps a little awkward) than any gift I’ve ever given before!!!

The re-gift.  Not always a bad thing.

I am not beautiful…

I am not beautiful…

I am not beautiful due to the make-up I put on.  Eyeliner can’t make my eyes truly beam with love.

I am not beautiful thanks to my favorite jeans or my cutest top.  They don’t prompt me to embrace other people with a warm hug.

I am not beautiful because I’ve lost a few pounds or the opposite.  Either way doesn’t remind me to love others.

My beauty does not hinge on the fact that I drive a nice vehicle or have a ride at all.  I can still take gifts to others.

My beauty does not rely on jewelry, perfume or accessories that may adorn this vessel the Lord has given me.  I can sparkle no matter what and show others they can sparkle as well.

My beauty is not comparable.  I am not the same beauty as you or the same as any human posed in a magazine.  Your beauty is just as incomparable!

————————————————–

I did not write this in order to bash make-up, jewelry or the want to smell good!  HAHAHA!  I love all those things.  I treat my face as a palette some days, because I am an artist!  Jewelry is fun and smelling good….well, that truly is one of my daily goals.  The main idea behind this is so I can remember that all those things don’t truly make up beauty.  My God created me.  He made me beautiful.  He made you beautiful.  If I keep my life centered in Him, beauty is in me, surrounds me and is one of the many things He gives me to enjoy.

Have you ever looked at another person (not with lust) and thought that is a beautiful person.  You don’t know their personality or heart.  You may know their name or other small details, but not really who they are.  God made that person and yes, they are beautiful, but that is not the entire beauty package!  We are wrapped in some crazy awesome stuff, but what’s on the inside is what makes us truly beautiful.

Skinny people who make fun of fat people here would say, yep, this writer is fat. (the word fat makes me sick… different blog)  She used that “WHAT’S ON THE INSIDE…” line.  Hahahaha!  That cracks me up every time I hear it.  I do admit, I have not felt “skinny” one time in my life although I have been at a weight where I should have. That is a whole different blog.

BACK TO BEAUTY…

That verse: “greater is the one in us than the one who’s in the world”         (1 John 4:4) keeps coming to my mind.  That is not a verse so we can be all arrogant and pompous about the fact that we have Jesus in our hearts.  That is not how we are supposed to be!  That verse is to remind us that we are who we are, because of Jesus.  JESUS is the reason we are beautiful.  HE is the reason we can find self-confidence and be proud of who we are–not prideful, but PROUD of you.  He is the reason we can overcome this world.  We can look passed the superficial and the beauty that is only skin deep.  We can see true beauty.  I love that about Jesus.  I love that about MY GOD!  I love that HE loves me no matter what I look like on the outside, because HE MADE ME BEAUTIFUL!
