WOW WORK WEEK!

Some would say this was just another week. A crazy week.  A manic week?

Was it one of those weeks that Tuesday felt like a second Monday ( I’ve never had it out for Monday, really) and you were all wishing Wednesday was Friday???

I know that feeling, but …this week for me was a WOW WORK WEEK.

I did a ton of things this week that made it full of just running around.  I went on a trip to Ft. Worth yesterday, worked on Valentine cards for those in the hospital or assisted living homes, planned for a district campaign, put in grades, finalized forms and oh yaaah, I taught in there too.   I turned in my lesson plans on time and even had a guest speaker in one of my classes today.  It’s been a FULL week.  Just another week?  No!  It’s been a WOW WEEK.  Today was a great Friday.  The boys just won their basketball game, we had a great fun tortilla toss and I’m at home with jammies on and about to put my feet up.  I got in almost 14,000 steps today, I DESERVE IT!

Today, I heard “the natives have been restless” from my awesome neighbor teacher friends as she handed me a huge can of happy today!  That can holds the coffee grounds of the fortunate.  When I drink it, I feel so fortunate that I’m a coffee consumer.  It was a surprise, a gift out of the blue, a YAY moment!  It made my Friday for sure!  She loves me!  And I sure do love her even when she’s not handing me a mondo can of the golden coffee!

So, no matter what people called this week or how it went for them… to me, this was a WOW WORK WEEK!  And now, on to the weekend!

Coffee anyone?

Happy Notes

It’s Martin Luther King, Jr Day. We were blessed to have the day off. This day is one where we should think about how we can serve others. MLK’s life was all about that and in order to honor his memory, I encouraged all my students to do something on their day off that served someone else.

I thought all day about what I could do.

I decided on HAPPY NOTES. I love sending notes and why not use that love to serve others.

I wrote each of my coworkers a hand written happy note that I hope helps start their second semester off right.  I congratulated them on having an awesome first semester and am looking forward to having a great second half of the school year with them!!! I also attached a little chocolate to help with the smiley happy wish.

What did you do on this MLK, Jr Day of Service?  I can’t wait to hear about all the things my students did!

I’m Up!

I’m up! I’m up and functional at 5:30 am on a Saturday morning. Not a regular work day but kind of.

After working basketball concession and the tortilla toss event all evening on a Friday night, getting home around 9:30, not winding down until about 11:30 and falling into some kind of slumber after that, I’m back up with my ready writers at a UIL event.  Yes, I’m up!

There are so many teachers that do this kind of thing all the time. We get up early and stay at work late. We support our students at athletic events, band concerts, agricultural shows, scholastic competitions and much more.  Sometimes we are there coaching, sometimes we are there just because. We want our students to know they are cared for and supported.  We want them to succeed in whatever they are involved in.

Some people say teachers have it so easy. We have a Monday through Friday job. (HA!) We have all the holidays off. (that IS nice, but not always true) We get the entire summer off. (Do you KNOW a teacher that truly does this???)

The summer months are nice because we do have more freedoms, but that’s after 36 weeks of an intense daily routine bombarded with other peoples’ children who come to us with all kinds of attitudes, moods, abilities and smells. I’m not griping about that, just stating it. The smells are sometimes objectionable, but for the most part, everything is all good.  Seriously, I love teaching.

What is the point of this blog?

Here ya go…

I want to remind everyone that there are teachers who really do go above and beyond their set job duties. They help, encourage and support their students. They teach not just reading, writing  and arithmetic.  They teach commitment, leadership, humbleness, putting others first and so much more!

So, I’m up!!! And I love what I do and love being around teachers who feel the same way about their job as I do.

I’M UP!!!

The Re-gift. Not always a bad thing.

regiftSo, today, I was gifted with the RE-gift.

How do I know it was re-gifted, you ask?

It was not half eaten or even un-packaged.  It was not ripped, torn or had the to and from tags marked out.  It was still neatly attached to it’s original packaging.  It was in it’s perfect new, without tags condition.

How did I know… because I was the initial giver of the gift.

At work, we play the Secret Santa game the last week we are in school before the Christmas break.  Monday starts the fun and Friday is ended with the “big” gift given.  Each day, we give a small token of happiness to our giftee.

The Santa names are all randomly chosen and this year, it so happens that MY SECRET SANTA (the gifter) is also MY SECRET SANTA (the giftee).  We have each other!  So, when I saw my small token of happiness back in my box this morning, I KNEW who my gifter was.  There is no longer the secret that goes in the term Secret Santa.  No more info kept under a hat or mums the word…

It has been revealed with the re-gift!

Does it make me mad?  NO.  I like the gift I got back.  It’s a neat little pen that I had carefully chosen for my person, because it had a theme that I THOUGHT went perfectly with their subject matter.  I must of thought wrong.  Either that OR my person believed that I needed the little token more than they, because I THINK I listed that I liked school supplies on my Secret Santa get-to-know-me form.  Who knows.  Whatever the reason, I have the gift back.  And either way, I’m fine getting the re-gift.

IN FACT, I think I will re-re-gift it on Friday when we give our “bigger” gift.  Who knows, maybe I’ll have more re-re-gifts to put in their bag by then!  HAHA!

That “bigger” gift may be a lot bigger and better and funnier (and perhaps a little awkward) than any gift I’ve ever given before!!!

The re-gift.  Not always a bad thing.

The first two days…

The first two days…

Yes.  I am blessed.  The last two days back at a job I love have been blessings.

Some teachers (and other people who have to) go through meetings get frustrated and upset at times.  They worry and fret over things, because the boss is not saying what they want or a co-worker won’t stop asking questions.  Well, I recognize the fact that we are all different people, different personalities and bodies.  We have difference of opinions, mind-sets and medication.  Haha!

I LOVE THOSE DIFFERENCES!  If we were all the same…how would this world be!?!  We’d all like bananas and the color green would be our fave.  How would that even work?  Yes, we would all agree, but how would that help move anything forward.  Plain and simple, it wouldn’t.  Duhh.

Ok, I know that some of those meetings go on and on because someone can’t let go of a point. I get it. But instead of getting upset, I giggle.  NOT AUDIBLY; although, sometimes a weird sound comes out from trying to stifle the giggle.  I don’t giggle because I’m making fun…I giggle because, as I said up there…I recognize that we are all different.  I giggle with joy that GOD MADE US THAT WAY!

I do admit, I threatened a couple of co-workers with a good ole body slam yesterday, but all in fun OF COURSE. (if I could actually body slam them..that would be entertaining tho!  haha!)

Back to my original point: I AM BLESSED.  Thank You God for these first two days!!!  Excited to see what this third one holds and the many more to come.  Excitement really doesn’t even begin to describe my expectancy!
