The flu

If you need something to slow you down… Get the flu! (Or not)

Yes, I have the flu.

Yesterday, at the doctors office, I cried when he told me the test was positive.  I was crying for several reasons … From the painful gagging I experienced from the former strep test, my achy joints, pounding head and the fact that I actually have the flu.

I do admit my life seems like it’s in fast forward most of the time. I’m always doing something or thinking of something to do OR concocting a plan to do something.  I’m not sure I would feel right if I weren’t DOING something.

I know that we are supposed to slow down at times! So, why can’t I really do that?

I have found that the only place I can truly not do or think is at the lake in a lawn chair when we go camping.  One of those zero-gravity chairs is the best.  Weird, huh?

But this time, I’m not camping. I just have the flu. It’s impossible to do anything really except drink liquids and get dizzy as I make my way to the bathroom.  And thinking… Well, writing this blog is the most thinking I’ve done in the last 24 hours or so.

I do suggest slowing down at times, but I do not suggest

the flu.

The Struggle Is Real

Everyone has a struggle.  It may be with self-loathing, a shoe buying addiction or a relationship.  It may be weight loss, an ill parent or a crazy person you gave birth to.  It might be your un-understanding spouse or a boss that just doesn’t appreciate your dedication.  Some struggle with their past.  Some struggle with the uncertainty of their future.  I struggle with remembering negative things people have said to me.  We all have some type of struggle.  Some have more than others!  They change daily at times.

What do you struggle with?  What is your weakness?

The Lord has been showing me some very important things the last few days.  He has been reminding me that weaknesses are what He specializes in for us.  He stands up for us.  He is our strength when we are weak.  He’s like one of those jumbo erasers when it comes to a weakness.  HE can help us lighten those and even erase them!  How exciting!  You are never ever alone in your weaknesses.  He will comfort us in scripture, surround us with people who support us and show us over and over that we are not alone.  That right there is awesome.

In the Bible, Paul talks about having a thorn in his side.  That struggle had to have been pretty annoying.  Just as Paul knew, I know the struggle is real.  I had a student one time that said that all the time (“The struggle is real, Mrs. Clawson”).  I miss that kid, but when I think about that saying now, I think,

Again, like Paul knew, I know that MY GOD IS REAL!  My God is so much MORE real than any struggle we may go through.

Thank you GOD for that.  Thank YOU for being bigger and better than any struggle I may come against.  Thank you for being STRONG in my weakness.   Amen!

#thankfulEVERYday

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Cor 12:9

WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT?!?

Lose up to 10 pounds in your first month.

Walk away that belly.

Take that first step.  Start your journey today!

Walk. Stair step.

Drink these shakes.

Take these pills.

Start now.

It’s easy!

Translations:

Your fat.

Your ugly.

You’re disgusting even.

You shouldn’t show your face in public.

People look at the size of your waist.

Your smile and awesome hair means nothing.

The way you look is the only thing that matters.

Our society is obsessed with weight loss and you should be too!

—————————

I’m all for feeling better about yourself. I’m in favor of being healthier.  It has been personally proven that exercising and eating right (or better) definitely helps the attitude. With this first day of the New Year though… WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT!?!

Is it how much weight you can lose by January 7th?

Is it how many steps you can put in before lunch?

Is it the way your jeans fit or how people look at you?

I don’t believe it is.

I know EVERYONE has that THING that they obsess over and for a lot of us, it’s the way we look. For others it’s organization or exercise or keeping the house clean (gag!).  But are any of those things what’s REALLY IMPORTANT?!?

I don’t believe it is.

I had a friend die of brain cancer just this morning.  Yes, first day of the year.  She is in heaven with Jesus!  No cancer, NO PAIN!  So, tell me, was losing weight, looking like society says we should, being organized or “perfect” important to her?

What’s really important?

GOD, a personal relationship with Jesus, family, friends and knowing that this world is not our home!

I’m not trying to knock losing weight or feeling better about yourself.  I’m only saying…

WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT?!?

I hope you find the true answer to that question this new year.

Happy New Year!

THE STING!

Our preacher used the story below in his EASTER sermon.  I think this is such a great analogy of how GOD protected and SAVED us by sending JESUS.  Thank you Lord for JESUS!

Once a boy and his father were driving along the road when a bee flew in the window. The boy got very upset when he saw the bee buzzing around his head and he began throwing his arms around madly, because he was allergic to bee stings! The boy was very frightened of the bee. The father quickly grabbed the bee!  He held it for a bit and then let it go again.

The bee began to buzz around again and the boy was again frightened.  The father told his son, “It is OK, you are all right.” Then he opened his hand to show the boy the stinger was stuck in his palm.  His father had allowed the bee to sting him. He had taken the sting and had taken the danger out of the bee.

Jesus Christ did the exact same thing for us!  He let death “sting” Him instead of us.  He did this so we could live forever and never die.  He took the danger out of death.  We can know that once we die, we can be with our Father in Heavan.  HOW AWESOME IS THAT!!!! (not a question, a exclamation!)

The Bible tells us about that “sting” being taken out of death by Jesus Christ:

“O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of
death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God,
which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
(I Corinthians 15:55-57)

I love how God did that for us.  He is just like a father who would take a sting for his child.  He did that for us!

What an amazing gift we have in EASTER!

Again, thank YOU LORD for JESUS!
