Anger truly NEVER works.

Oopsy…Oops…did I do that?

YES I DID!

I totally messed up today.  I said things and used tones of voice that I shouldn’t.

I found myself going absolutely bahhzerko crazy in the middle of Sams today.

I was so fed up …tired, sick of attitude, disrespect and most of all negativity.  Not trying to excuse myself in any way, but just explaining why my head started to spin around exorcist style in the middle of the book isle.

Did it help for me to say the things I did?  Nope.

Did it help to get angry?  Nope.

Did it add minutes to my life or help my health in any way?  I’m certain that is a NOPE.

But this is the most important question:
Did it in any way show anyone at all (especially the person I was talking to…I promise I didn’t make a scene) JESUS?

I’m most ashamed of this, “NOPE.”

Looking back, it is crazy how fast that kind of anger can burst out like an explosion.

I can’t even remember all of the ugly words that exited my lips.  I know none of them were loving, pretty or in the least bit helpful.  They just added to the chaos that was already unfolding.  They did not make anything move forward or help anyone understand the situation a bit better.

I was wrong.  Not saying the other person was right, but I know I was wrong.

It’s important to admit it in order to move on.  Do you ever have times where you try and justify your anger?  It just doesn’t work.

Anger truly never works.

ANGER

How can anger appear instantaneoulsy?

In a blink of an eye it can pop up out of nowhere.

Someone looks at you wrong, takes your words in the wrong way (MISCOMMUNICATION! UG!) or actually flips you “the bird.”

…AND THE FIRST SPARK OF ANGER POPS AND THE FLAME ROARS!

SOMETIMES, when I allow anger to take over my brain, it takes me forever to come to my senses.  I get so stuck on the reasons why I’m upset.  It’s crazy!  Why do I allow that?  I do this mainly with my husband and sometimes my children.

At work, it’s the total opposite.  I know that the things students do in my classroom to make me upset really aren’t worth the anger.  I, most of the time, do not take that personally.  They need forgiveness, I believe, quick, so we can continue with our class– smoothly.

WHY CAN’T I DO THIS WITH EVERYONE!?  Life is too short to keep anger.  Like is too short to get hot-headed and crazy.  Forgiveness should come quick and fast so LIFE CAN GO ON –SMOOTHLY!  There is no time for revenge or bottled up ill feelings.  What a waste of time.

I know I need to work on this.  I am working on it now.  Here are somethings that I’ve read lately that are going to help remind me…

How to be a HAPPY CAMPER!

(Infomercial voice used here) Hello friend!  Do you want to be a happy camper?  Are you tired of frowning?  Life got ya down today?  Well, let’s go over ways to become a HAPPY CAMPER!

BECAUSE YOU TOO CAN BE A HAPPY CAMPER!

happy-camper1

You really don’t have to go camping to be a happy camper, but you may have to pack a bag.  Your bag should be filled with things that aid in your happiness.  You should always be prepared!  Being prepared to be HAPPY is most important.   Admit it, when you are prepared in any situation, it just makes life BETTER!  So…

Let’s pack our bags full of:

POSITIVE THOUGHTS!

Articles that warm our hearts.

Videos that make us smile even when we don’t even realize it.

Pay it Forward Activities.

SMILES! (essential!)

Notes, quotes and other tidbits that remind us that life is good!

HUGS!

Confetti! (I prefer it over glitter.)

CUPCAKES!

Ok, cupcakes might not be your thing, but I think you get the picture.  Whatever is in your bag, it should be something that will help you and remind you and encourage you.  Never pack your bag full of regret and deceit.  Don’t stash some worry in there.  Don’t wrap up and hide your concerns and woes.  Throw anger and ill-feelings in the trash or better yet,

FLUSH THEM DOWN THE TOILET!  Get rid of all that.

Your road to HAPPY CAMPER-NESS should be easy if you only look to the things that make you HAPPY.

YOUR bag needs to be full of things that put a smile on your face and a skip in your step!

I promise you, when you can BE PREPARED to be happy…it’s so much easier.

AND YOU TOO CAN BE A HAPPY CAMPER!

An idea: I keep a HAPPY FILE in my desk at work.  This file is filled with award certificates, small drawings and notes, cards and even emails I’ve printed out.  They are reminders that I am doing a good job and that I AM LOVED.  If I ever get to the point where I feel as if I am not being appreciated or just exhausted over life in general, I whip out this file.  Most of the times it makes me cry, but it breaks down the funkiness I have somehow built and paves the road to sunshine again!  I love my HAPPY FILE—it keeps me prepared and always ready to be a HAPPY CAMPER!
