Life truly is all about connections.

Who are you connecting with?  I’m not talking about DATING.  I’m talking about networking, learning from…connecting.

I had a great weekend of connecting with some great student council friends.  I was able to meet some new faces and share some great ideas.  That truly is what teaching or advising is all about.  It’s about learning TOGETHER.

I know I say this a lot.  I don’t get tired of saying it though.  I LOVE MY JOB.  I love my coworkers, the way our leader supports us, how we are able and encouraged to network with others and I love my students.  I am truly happy about working all weekend at this conference I just came back from AND I’M truly happy I GET to get up in the morning and go work at the best high school in Texas!

Thank You Lord for connections.  Thank You Lord for my student council friends.  You know I know YOU put those people in my life.  THANK YOU!  Thank You Lord for allowing this weekend to be amazing.  AMEN!

The first two days…

The first two days…

Yes.  I am blessed.  The last two days back at a job I love have been blessings.

Some teachers (and other people who have to) go through meetings get frustrated and upset at times.  They worry and fret over things, because the boss is not saying what they want or a co-worker won’t stop asking questions.  Well, I recognize the fact that we are all different people, different personalities and bodies.  We have difference of opinions, mind-sets and medication.  Haha!

I LOVE THOSE DIFFERENCES!  If we were all the same…how would this world be!?!  We’d all like bananas and the color green would be our fave.  How would that even work?  Yes, we would all agree, but how would that help move anything forward.  Plain and simple, it wouldn’t.  Duhh.

Ok, I know that some of those meetings go on and on because someone can’t let go of a point. I get it. But instead of getting upset, I giggle.  NOT AUDIBLY; although, sometimes a weird sound comes out from trying to stifle the giggle.  I don’t giggle because I’m making fun…I giggle because, as I said up there…I recognize that we are all different.  I giggle with joy that GOD MADE US THAT WAY!

I do admit, I threatened a couple of co-workers with a good ole body slam yesterday, but all in fun OF COURSE. (if I could actually body slam them..that would be entertaining tho!  haha!)

Back to my original point: I AM BLESSED.  Thank You God for these first two days!!!  Excited to see what this third one holds and the many more to come.  Excitement really doesn’t even begin to describe my expectancy!

A shout out to JESUS!

I’m gonna lift the name of JESUS up right here.  I hope that my life does that daily.  Don’t all Christians want that?

I sure hope so!

Thank You JESUS for your sacrifice and grace.  Amen.

Last, the song I keep singing over and over…it’s my theme song.

Jesus got ahold of my life and He won’t let me go!
Jesus got into my heart; He got into my soul!
I used to be oh so sad,
But now I’m just so free and so glad,
‘Cause Jesus got ahold of my life and He won’t let go!

Sometimes I remember how I used to be livin’ in sin;
I tried to act happy and free but I wasn’t within;
I fooled a lot of friends of mine,
They tho’t I had some peace of mind,
But I never had a thing until I opened up and let Jesus in!

Jesus got ahold of my life and He won’t let me go!
Jesus got into my heart; He got into my soul!
I used to be oh so sad,
But now I’m just so free and so glad,
‘Cause Jesus got ahold of my life and He won’t let go!

Aren’t you getting’ just a bit tired of foolin’ around?
You try to laugh your way thro’ life but you’re not gainin’ ground;
Why not try the Lord today,
Just ask Him in your heart to stay,
And you’ll find Jesus’ love to be the greatest thing that you’ve ever found!

Jesus got ahold of my life and He won’t let me go!
Jesus got into my heart; He got into my soul!
I used to be oh so sad,
But now I’m just so free and so glad,
‘Cause Jesus got ahold of my life and He won’t let go

I thank YOU

We got to see the Kingdom Heirs last week at Dollywood.  They were seriously my favorite.  Here is the song I absolutely fell in love.  It perfectly lists things I’m so thankful for!

For the times YOU kept me safe and sound…

For drying my tears…

Keeping me steady…

For peace like a river…

setting me free…

supplying my need…

I thank YOU

Give Credit where Credit is Due.

This week has been a week full of happies and it’s only Thursday!

It’s teacher appreciation week so it was expected that fun things might be in store for this week.  I knew I would be appreciated in some way or another. (due to the fact that I am a good teacher–most days! *smile*)  Our boss even sent out an email outlining a few things coming (he kept some a secret). Thus, I knew coming into this week, I would receive a certain amount of “KUDOS.”

BUT HOW COULD I KNOW that I’d be blessed with so much.  I take great joy in words of affirmation.  When I took the quiz for the 5 love languages, that one was right up there. I’ve had so many tell me something personally and/or send me happy notes, messages, texts, etc. this week.  I have loved them all!  Some have come from people I haven’t heard from in a while.  That, to me, makes it so special AND CONFIRMS what I’m about to say…

Some may take credit for their kind words or the need they get to tell someone something good… but I’m going to

Give Credit where Credit is Due:

God uses people.  God knows what each of us need and He allows people to lift each other up.  Maybe we as humans don’t realize it or think about it much.  Maybe even the thing we say or send was a spur of the moment thing that we didn’t put a ton of thought into, but either way, GOD uses it to bless others.   He is in control.  He works for our good.  I love that!

I thank all those who have made it a point to create happiness in my life this week, but most of all I THANK GOD.

GOD KNEW! (He always does.)

Some days I feel like I’m spinning my wheels and not moving forward at all.  I feel like no matter how I keep on trying, the pile of stuff to get done just doesn’t get any smaller.  I get frustrated.  I get down.  At times, I get angry. (yuck!)

Today hasn’t been a horrible day in any way.  I’ve actually accomplished a few things I truly set out to do.  I think the devil saw me climbing that mountain of to-dos, showing some success and decided to try and push me down!   I had this weird defeated feeling.  But you know what….HA!  I LAUGH in his nasty face!  I WILL KEEP ON KEEPIN’ ON!

First, my boss tells me he has nominated me for a nice local award.  Whether I get it or not–that is not the issue–the fact that I was nominated is such an honor.  I feel like I let my students down sometimes by not being able to focus more time on teaching, because I have so many things going on in the art room than just teaching them how to draw, paint or sculpt.  This is someone (the boss) looking in on my class, thinking–she is doing a pretty good job.   This really helped me to stop being so hard on myself. I thank GOD for this.  He uses people around us to snap us back into where we are supposed to be.

Once I’d left my boss’s office, I made my way back to my room to check email and there was a message from the state director of the Texas Association of Student Councils.  She was congratulating me on being nominated for State Advisor of the Year. I was elected by my peers in the district as District Advisor of the Year which makes me eligible for the state award as well.  I THANK GOD FOR THIS!  He uses so many things to remind us that we are doing a good job here!

After that, I found a message on my phone from a former student telling me I was a great teacher and meant a lot to her. Her words were so encouraging.

Seriously, GOD KNEW I needed some confirmation today.

He knew I needed some help getting passed the defeated feeling that had somehow crept up in my day.

He sent all these gifts to me today!

When getting ready to write this blog, I head to this website ( and the first blog (click here to read it) that is in my news feed has this verse:

“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 2:3-5 (NASB)

The blog talks about how we shouldn’t glorify ourselves and maybe you see that I’m doing this in my writings here, but what I’m really trying to share with you is that GOD is the reason for all this.  God deserves the Advisor of the Year award!  He deserves all the credit.  He’s the reason I am the teacher I am.  He’s the reason I am who I am!  I will not feel defeated!  I will not allow satan to push me down.  I will keep on keepin’ on!

I praise God that He allows people to encourage others.  He wants us to be unselfish and to look out for others.  I thank Him for sending people like this to me today.  I needed reminding that I need to be like JESUS and there are others around me who are!

Thank YOU God!  I know it ALL comes from YOU.

Good Company

I’ve been subject to some good company the last couple of days.

Being around great people whom you love AND YOU KNOW they love you–because they seriously show it…is,

I believe,

the closest thing

we can feel here on earth…

to Heaven.

God meant for us to feel like that.  He created us to LOVE.  He created us to LOVE and to be LOVED.

He created GOOD COMPANY.

Thank You Lord for all the good company I’ve experienced the last few days.  You are the creator and giver of blessings which come to us in so many ways

..and I thank you so much for allowing one of those ways to be…

good-company in-good-company no-road-is-long-with-good-company-6

a BIG thank you!

THANK YOUIt’s so important to say THANK YOU!  I know I’ve written on this before.  That just means I think it’s REALLY important.  I like to show my appreciation.  It’s something that we should all take pleasure in.   We know people who don’t enjoy it and more times than not their faces are adorned with frowns and their disposition is much less than desirable.  Anyway!  I digress.  APPRECIATION–it’s important.

I want to THANK YOU for reading my blog.  I want to THANK YOU for following my blog.  Yesterday, my follower number hit 100!  I’m so thankful to all of you who have taken that small step and decided to follow this crazy bloggity blog of mine.  Thank you, I appreciate it!  I hope I can continue each day by helping ya think, reflect and perhaps inspire you a little bit.

Would like to leave you with some thank you quotes:

Saying thank you is more than good manners.  It is good spirituality.  ~Alfred Painter

I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought, and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.  ~G.K. Chesterton

The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.  ~Oscar Wilde

It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.  ~Author Unknown

THANK YOU!  -Rita 🙂

THE GIVING TREE was one of my favorite books when I was younger. I think I liked it just because it was simple and I remember one of the teachers (whom I loved) read it to my class. I really loved when teachers read to the class. Does that even happen anymore? Anyway! I’m getting off focus here. Looking at it now, this book by Shel Silverstein is really a sad story of one taking advantage of another. The tree is all used up, but that is what the tree wanted— to give all it could throughout this boy’s life—and the boy takes it! The boy never really appreciates the tree in the story, he just took what it had for him.

The book reminds me that we should give of ourselves like the tree, but what’s more important is that we appreciate those “trees” in our lives. Look around and find those that help you and support you no matter what. Make sure they KNOW you appreciate them. We should always be thankful. It really is just as important as GIVING.

Fall is Grand!!!  Today was a wonderfully windy day full of beauty and I just happened to snap a picture or two.  Sharing one above. 🙂  God sure knows how to create some awesome pictures!  It’s insane how some people think all this beauty is some kind of coincidence.  What!?  Thank GOD for this beauty!

We also had our family photos done today by a former student (and family friend) of mine.  It was so great to talk with her and catch up and know that the pics she took are going to be great.  She also made me feel like a great teacher–that is such a blessing, because we all know that, at times, we question ourselves.  We doubt the impact or influence we have on those around us.  It’s so nice when God allows others to give us a boost of confidence.

I so appreciate her words today that made me feel so good—I want to seek out those who have helped teach me anything important along the way or made me strive to keep on keepin’ on.  I’ve tried in the last few years to really do that–to show others what they have  done for me.  I have blogged in the past about my mentors and that is who I’m talking about now.  There have been so many in my life that wouldn’t even consider themselves “mentors,” but there is no doubt they had a major influence on me.  I think it’s so important to recognize these people and let them know they helped you in some way or made you feel great about yourself or just gave you a great example through some situation they were in.  I can think of so many who fit one or more of these things.  I think I will go right now and let some of them know that I thought of them today.
