Bless, encourage, help and LOVE.

What do you with your time?

Are you out to bless?

OR out to curse?

Are you out for others or only out for the benefit of yourself?

I ask myself this.  I have to adjust my thinking sometimes. I have to reconnect with reality and remember why we are put here.  God put us here to bless, live for others and share what we know about HIM.

I attended a SPARKLE Dinner tonight which is an event that my friend Tammy Whitehurst organizes.  She has this mission to help and encourage those who struggle.  She is such a blessing, because she knows what we are to do with our time.

The main focus with these dinners she puts together are to lift up those battling cancer.

As the speaker, Nathan Mathias, said tonight though–we all may not have CANCER, but we all have some type of struggle.

It could be anything.  We all struggle.  Everyone around you struggles with SOMETHING.

Nathan struggled with cancer with several months.  After battling, he is now cancer free.  This is not only awesome for him, but also his family and the numerous prayer warriors that feel the absolute victory with him.  It is a blessing when someone is cured and you see that they give all the glory to GOD.  Nathan truly lives out James 1:2–

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,

He counts his struggles to all be JOY in our Lord.

And read on in verse 3…

because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.

Nathan will persevere, because he has been through the trials.  We all go through our trials, but Nathan faced his with GOD at all times.  We all need to remember this.

Nathan is going to use his story to help others.  He is going to use the strength he received through Jesus to encourage others to do the same.  He know what to do with his time.

Another man, Steve Denfeld, spoke tonight about his mission…to LOVE others.  He is a fireman that heads up the Pink Heals of Gregg County.  (please go check out thier page)  I was moved by the emotion he showed as he talked about just being able to show love for those in need.  He talked about how this organization is all about LOVE and not just about a cause.  They look at people in need and just love on them.  It was so great to hear about this organization.  This guy really knows what to do with his time.  LOVE!

I pray that I always do what I’m supposed to do with my time.

Bless, encourage, help and LOVE.

Al Walker

Mr. Walker is a dad. He’s a Christian man. He’s a husband. A grandad. He’s a survivor.
We were so blessed tonight to have Al Walker speak at our benefit dinner tonight for the Texas Oncology Foundation.
He’s living proof that what we are doing is REAL and important. We want to help people with their fight. We want to support and encourage those who, as Mr. Walker said, are fighting a giant. He was diagnosed with cancer six years ago and was first given two weeks to live. Wow. He beat out the two weeks and kept moving forward. He prayed and sought counsel from a mighty God who has granted him more time with his family, friends and thank God our group tonight.
His story was so touching and inspiring and I’m so glad my students, especially, got to hear it.
I am honored to dedicate this blog to Al Walker today and his story of survival.

Staying Positive

Even the most positive people get down.  I started thinking about this as I heard about a teacher who died of cancer just today.  Her two children are left here without their mom.  I’m not certain of all the family and friends she left behind, but I’m certain there are people hurting from the loss.  How can one stay “positive” at a time like that.

I’m not sure staying positive is something you really think about in that event.  Do you really think about “looking on the bright side?”  I know from suffering the loss of my parents, my best friend and other family members, friends and acquaintances–a positive mental outlook is not really something you strive for.  You really just strive to make it.  You hope that the pain subsides long enough for the tears to dry.  You find comfort in memories and sharing with others.  It’s important to be around others at this time– allowing them to help you.   Moving forward is essential.  I’m not saying leave the deceased behind in your timeline and never think of them again or avoid revisiting the great memories they created in your life —I’m saying you must move forward with their memory.  You can’t stay in the sorrowful moment of their passing.  You must continue to live in honor of them.  It was a blessing that you were able to have the time you did with them and it should be an honor for you to continue to hold the memories of them that are more than likely full of lessons and times which have helped you develop into who you are.

In times like today where another wonderful person was taken by cancer …and in other times where children perish, families suffer unforeseen circumstances of such loss and people seem to vanish from our lives… staying positive is not something we immediately move to, but at some point, that is where we have to journey toward.

I am secure in knowing that my God will comfort those who need comfort.  He will help those who need guidance.  He will protect the ones who need a hedge built around them.  Staying positive becomes an easy feat when you know all good things come from God.  ((Romans 8:28))  He will help you through anything, but you must call on Him.  You must want to move.

I pray for this teacher’s family today.  I pray for those who have lost.  I pray for those who need to begin their journey of healing and for their continued forward movement, making their way to that place where they can be positive once again.

Tonight at church we watched a video created for a program called My Hope America with Billy Graham.

It was moving, touching and quite amazing.  I went to the My Hope America with Billy Graham  website when I got home to check out more info on this great evangelistic video.  It has a program to go through that can help you join in the efforts to spread Jesus!  I’m all about spreadin’ some Jesus!  I’ve already signed up for the training.  🙂

The video is shared below.  I just want to say, the most touching part to me is where Billy Graham says that JESUS became all of those things (like I talked about on my blog yesterday Sin is Sin) on the cross.  He took all of that for us!  It breaks my heart that He did that for us at the same time I’m rejoicing in the fact that He did.  Thank You Jesus!

Please watch the video.  It’s almost 29 minutes, but it’s a great narrative and drama that makes you think –in so many ways.  Once you’ve watched it, share it!

Thank You God for this video.  Thank You for allowing me to share it on my blog.  Thank You God for Your amazing gift in Jesus.  Thank You for loving me…as me.  Amen.
