Those three…

We are all in search for something.  The meaning of life?

Most would like to know the meaning of life and use every minute to ponder and wonder. Sometimes searching gets us exhausted and while searching, striving to find something, we miss out on the things we really need to focus on.

God, family, friends...  We give up on those three important things to stay connected with a world that doesn’t really care if we are here or not when those three truly do.

God, family and friends love us, care about us, want us.

Watching TV, looking down at our phones, staring at a computer screen (like I’m doing now) or searching for things to entertain us limits us at times.  While trying to broaden our minds, we might find ourselves filling them with useless information when we could be experiencing something new, innovative or just plain fun instead!

My day today started out with sitting in a deer stand.  This wasn’t a new real life experience for me or something particularly innovative, but it was fun.  I’ve not done it in many years.  It’s not something I’ve ever really loved to do.  After today, I’m not saying I’m some deer hunting convert either, but I can say, it was nice being out in the woods, watching the squirrels and listening to my boy whisper about his friends and stories about school.  My husband wasn’t able to take him this morning, so I filled in.  I’m not the best fill in, of course, but I had to do.

So, I started off my day by searching for the camo shirt, searching for the keys, searching for the road to turn on, searching for the stand in the dark with coyotes howling in the background…

The search was on …then the wait was on … then he shot a sizable creature (I’m his witness–it was big) … then the search started again!

Like bloodhounds, we trailed the deer until for some reason, the blood stopped dropping. I know what frustration is today.  I know that sometimes, searching does not end in finding.  I know that we sometimes have to sit back, listen, watch, think, regroup and go home.  That is what we did today.  We searched and searched until I thought I was lost (I wasn’t!). The search came up empty, but the experience was something I don’t think either my boy or I will forget.

Let’s be IN SEARCH of memories we can make with others.  We need to focus on those three things I mentioned earlier.  I think our search for whatever we are looking for should start with those three.

WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT?!?

Lose up to 10 pounds in your first month.

Walk away that belly.

Take that first step.  Start your journey today!

Walk. Stair step.

Drink these shakes.

Take these pills.

Start now.

It’s easy!

Translations:

Your fat.

Your ugly.

You’re disgusting even.

You shouldn’t show your face in public.

People look at the size of your waist.

Your smile and awesome hair means nothing.

The way you look is the only thing that matters.

Our society is obsessed with weight loss and you should be too!

—————————

I’m all for feeling better about yourself. I’m in favor of being healthier.  It has been personally proven that exercising and eating right (or better) definitely helps the attitude. With this first day of the New Year though… WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT!?!

Is it how much weight you can lose by January 7th?

Is it how many steps you can put in before lunch?

Is it the way your jeans fit or how people look at you?

I don’t believe it is.

I know EVERYONE has that THING that they obsess over and for a lot of us, it’s the way we look. For others it’s organization or exercise or keeping the house clean (gag!).  But are any of those things what’s REALLY IMPORTANT?!?

I don’t believe it is.

I had a friend die of brain cancer just this morning.  Yes, first day of the year.  She is in heaven with Jesus!  No cancer, NO PAIN!  So, tell me, was losing weight, looking like society says we should, being organized or “perfect” important to her?

What’s really important?

GOD, a personal relationship with Jesus, family, friends and knowing that this world is not our home!

I’m not trying to knock losing weight or feeling better about yourself.  I’m only saying…

WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT?!?

I hope you find the true answer to that question this new year.

Happy New Year!

CONNECTIONS

Life truly is all about connections.

Who are you connecting with?  I’m not talking about DATING.  I’m talking about networking, learning from…connecting.

I had a great weekend of connecting with some great student council friends.  I was able to meet some new faces and share some great ideas.  That truly is what teaching or advising is all about.  It’s about learning TOGETHER.

I know I say this a lot.  I don’t get tired of saying it though.  I LOVE MY JOB.  I love my coworkers, the way our leader supports us, how we are able and encouraged to network with others and I love my students.  I am truly happy about working all weekend at this conference I just came back from AND I’M truly happy I GET to get up in the morning and go work at the best high school in Texas!

Thank You Lord for connections.  Thank You Lord for my student council friends.  You know I know YOU put those people in my life.  THANK YOU!  Thank You Lord for allowing this weekend to be amazing.  AMEN!

YOU complete me.

I am just a gal. One person. I have no super powers. I don’t claim to be able to do everything.  Sounds kind of boring huh?  No frills, no thrills.

Just me.

BUT, I am a

fearfully and wonderfully

made human being.

I have talents and abilities that others in my circle may not. They need me. They not only need me, but I in turn need them.  They complete me. I know that is usually used in marriage terms, but it’s true in other relationships too.

I believe that all of these people are divine appointments. That means GOD CHOSE THEM FOR ME!!!  Every single one of them. Wow!

All those around me are put in my life for a purpose. I admit the purpose is not always noticeable right at first, but it most always surfaces quickly.

I just want to give GOD all the glory for this.  I praise Him and thank HIM for helping me through His people!  I especially thank Him for His Son!

Lord, YOU complete me.

Thank You Lord!

Amen.

LAUGHTER!

I need laughter.
It’s almost like my need for air.
I know, in reality, it’s not, but …
Laughter helps me keep looking toward THE GOOD and we all know that is hard to do sometimes.
I have a great life, a great spot, my family is super and my job is my dream. I am so thankful for everything I have. I’m not sad, I just long for laughter.
I need a good ole LAUGH FEST!
I want to talk to an old friend and laugh about goofy stuff we did.
I want to hang out with someone who is FUNNY in a nice clean way.
I hear some of my students laughing at each other and miss my best friends.
I want to laugh.
Laughter keeps ya young and maybe that is it…
I’m feeling old here lately.
I need that fountain of youth called
LAUGHTER!

Good Company

I’ve been subject to some good company the last couple of days.

Being around great people whom you love AND YOU KNOW they love you–because they seriously show it…is,

I believe,

the closest thing

we can feel here on earth…

to Heaven.

God meant for us to feel like that.  He created us to LOVE.  He created us to LOVE and to be LOVED.

He created GOOD COMPANY.

Thank You Lord for all the good company I’ve experienced the last few days.  You are the creator and giver of blessings which come to us in so many ways

..and I thank you so much for allowing one of those ways to be…

GOOD COMPANY.

THIS MAN.

There is this man…

He’s caring and loving and CRAZY.  I love his attitude, his smile

AND EVEN when he throws me under the bus by blaming me for things that HE did.

THIS MAN, most always, makes me laugh out loud and talks to me about our awesome friend Jesus.  We can talk about situations that frustrate us or make us joyful.  We discuss the Bible, why we are so blessed and how OUR GOD makes stuff awesome like the full moon was last night (for all to see before the football game).

This man helps out those around him in anyway he possibly can.  He lives and displays integrity.  He teaches good character and how hard work will pay off when it’s done right.  (or how it can be learned from when done wrong)

This man is known by all as a great person, an awesome teacher and a leader in our community and really, abroad.

This man is what he refers to himself as my “FIRST BEST FRIEND” and makes sure to let my other best friend (Love you Reagan!) know she is number two.

I’m so honored and blessed by THIS MAN that I figured I’d write this blog about him today.

Mr. Johnny Coleman– I LOVE YOU.

Here’s a few pics of us…

THIS FIRST ONE IS MY FAVE…we are so cute!

Here, Mr. Coleman is giving the speech at graduation last year.  Loved his speech, because he talked mainly about attitude. We have a GREAT attitude in common.  Some days he helps mine lift tons more than he will ever know!

I LOVE

THIS MAN.

Photographs of Relaxation

We are camping and it’s such a chill trip. The weather has been warm, but really perfect. The bugs have been few. The kids are having a blast. My husband has been able to fish and catch a lot. I’ve been blessed with friend chats, awesome walks and time to think.
Here are some photos (below) I’ve taken this far. We still have two more days to be here.

Happy Summer!

20140629-222058-80458810.jpg

I took this pic of my daughter Morgan and her friend Maverick. His dad and I go way back–we graduated high school together– he invited us to come enjoy their pool. We had a good time! It was a beautiful day. The sun was in super force which makes me extra powered and the wind was breezy.
After I snapped it, I thought this pic looks so fun and bright and full of joy. This is how SUMMER should be!
Have you captured any truly summer moments?
Even though our summer break is almost half over, I hope for many more moments like these to record.
Happy Summer!

TEACHER APPRECIATION

teacherappreciation

You’ve seen the signs:  IF YOU CAN READ THIS, THANK A TEACHER.  BUT a teacher, to me, is so much more than only that person who has taught us to read, write or do that other thing.  (Love to the math teachers too!)

We have so many teachers in our midst.

Those who actually went to school to get a teaching degree fill the first few years of our lives- daily.  I am blessed and honored to be one of those that get to experience high school with so many awesome students.  I truly enjoy doing what I do …for the great, good, bad and ugly attitudes.  One of my former teachers (the first year I got to actually TEACH with him) once said, “How fun would teaching be if all your kids were ‘MODEL STUDENTS’?”  That statement stuck with me, because, for me, just like him, that is so true!  If all of our students were the exact same, this job I love so much, might not be so fun.  I do know some teachers and have worked with many that exasperate themselves to no end, because they want all of their classes to get everything the first time and to all learn the exact same way.  That is a subject for another blog.

TEACHERS are important.  Those who have their degree, though, aren’t the only ones we encounter.  I know, this Teacher Appreciation Week is really designated for those certification carrying ones, but I’m here to acknowledge the OTHER teachers as well…

My dad, who taught me so many things from his positive encouragement and negative ways.  He was my absolute cheerleader, but may things he did in his life that I witnessed made me learn that I definitely did not want to do that.

My mom, who through her sweet spirit, showed me that if you get mad, you don’t have to dwell on it…move on.  I, of course, don’t do that all the time, but for the most part, I try my best to forgive and forget and she was stellar at that!

My grandmothers who were such great friends, but so much UN-alike.  They both showed me so many characteristics from the docile, sweet and quiet to the spunky, cantankerous and onerey.  How they were best of friends still cracks me up.

I learn from my children.  They teach me most of all that GOD puts up with a lot from us.  We are His children just like they are ours.  I want to give them all I can and I know God does the same for us.  I have learned that this truth which is mentioned and praised about in the Bible, is my most favorite truth.  God wants our life to work out for the good.

There are so many who have taught me awesome stuff over the years and some I’m about to list continue to teach me daily AND they teach me more than I can list, but here goes:  (and yes, some are certified teachers)

  • Mrs. Garrison…taught me that not only is ARTING a great career, but being a mentor no matter what you are doing, is the best!
  • Mr. Hanoshack …taught me that teaching should be fun and sometimes crazy –even if your students look at you like you are FOR REAL crazy–it’s worth it, because they will remember something from your display/lecture even if it’s just the fact that you are CRAZY.
  • Mr. Oglesby …taught me that even though student teaching days might be a nightmare, that is NOT the way your teaching career has to be.  THANK GOD!
  • Mrs. Jensen …taught me that teaching is something that is not only a career, but a calling.
  • Coach Chadwick …taught me that being the happiest and most supportive person you can be is above all the best thing you can do in this life.
  • Johnny Coleman …taught me that being  a friend who will do anything for you is what a friend is really supposed to do –no matter what.
  • Reagan Y’barbo …taught me that it’s important to have someone you can go to for every aspect of a woman’s life–a man doesn’t understand EMOTION sometimes!
  • Tammy Whitehurst  …taught me that even tho your younger years might have been crazy insane and sinful, GOD STILL LOVES ME and will never not love me.
  • Danny Essary …taught me that a path based on the Bible is for real the only way AND you can be friends forever no matter how far away you are from each other or how few times you get in touch over the years.

I could list so many others, but for now, I’m going to list ONE MORE who might not think he has taught me anything and probably wishes I would learn MORE of the stuff he thinks I should…

BOBBY LEE CLAWSON has taught me that a person can love another person unconditionally…no matter what they say or do OR what their physical appearance is even when it’s changed numerous times over the years due to things such as exercise, diet and AGE.   In this day and age, there are so many who don’t hang on to relationships (married or otherwise), because they don’t work for it and definitely don’t know what about or can show UNCONDITIONAL love.  If you truly love someone, then no matter what–YOU LOVE THEM.  Again, just like GOD loves us.  We can do horribly despicable things yet, HE STILL LOVES US.  Bobby Lee has taught me that people CAN do this.

“We love because HE first loved us.”  1John 4:19

GOD is the ultimate Teacher.  What a lesson!  Thanks Teacher!

thank
