It’s funny that this song is on OH BROTHER, Where Art Thou. Funny movie. Great song.
Here are the lyrics:
There’s a dark & a troubled side of life
There’s a bright, there’s a sunny side, too
Tho’ we meet with the darkness and strife
The sunny side we also may view
[cho:] Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side,
Keep on the sunny side of life
It will help us ev’ry day, it will brighten all the way
If we’ll keep on the sunny side of life
The storm and its fury broke today,
Crushing hopes that we cherish so dear;
Clouds and storms will, in time, pass away
The sun again will shine bright and clear.
Let us greet with the song of hope each day
Tho’ the moment be cloudy or fair
Let us trust in our Saviour away
Who keepeth everyone in His care
I am encouraged by this sweet little song today. Not trying to say I had a bad day at all. In fact, today was a great day…A VERY SUNNY SIDE kind of day. I was blessed to be able to go with a group of kids–a big group of our students–who sang Christmas carols at a local nursing home. They stepped up and shook hands, hugged and talked to the residents. They sang and smiled and wished everyone a Merry Christmas. I was so proud to see them do this. It reminded me of the reason I teach. It’s not so I can take trips or get students out of class …it’s to teach children more than just the curriculum. It’s to help students learn that putting others first is the most important thing to do in this life besides asking Jesus into your heart.
Today, keeping on the sunny side was definitely easy.
If we do what this song simply says…it will be easy to help others keep on that side too!
It’s important to think out of the box and move forward or as this video says: ABOVE AND BEYOND!
There’s so many ways we can do this. I’m not just talking about inventing some new way of travel (although the time travel thing seems super nerdy and “treky”, but super cool no matter what) or an invention to revolutionize some normal every day thing like communication (that has really already been done, ya know?), but I’m talking about ANYTHING..we have to keep learning and wanting to reach out and grab new ideas. Try new things, help others see your vision and keep moving up! How can you go ABOVE AND BEYOND?
I talk about a lot of things here at AwesomeClawson. Several are reoccurring such as the topic today.
It is so important that you never stop learning. Do not ever get to the point where you can’t learn or you THINK you know it all. At that point, you are stagnant, dull and to tell ya the absolute truth, quite annoying. We’ve all been around the type that you can tell nothing to. They know it already, right? (RIGHT!?) If you are one of these, please stop. IMMEDIATELY.
I believe to keep yourself young, you must continue to learn. To keep yourself moving, you must keep learning. To make yourself even more of a beautiful human being, you must CONTINUOUSLY LEARN.
As a teacher, if I were totally against learning then I’D BE DEFEATING MY OWN PURPOSE!
It can take place just about anywhere. To learn something new is like a gift to me. Like, HAPPY LEARNING to me!
Today I learned…
that I can STILL learn new techniques and ways of doing things like collage, clay and shading. Everyone has their own way of doing things and sometimes to observe this, helps US become renewed and revived! At times it just reminds us of something we wanted to do or did at one time. Other times, we discover we like the way we did it instead of this new way, but still, it’s cool to see the NEW WAY. The best times are when there is that AHH HAAA moment when you go, “Oh wow, that is cool!” THAT IS LEARNING! ((LOVE IT!))
I get so excited about learning new things and I believe that is why I love teaching—I love watching my students do the “OH WOW…” moment. It’s more than rewarding—it’s why I do what I do.
GO LEARN SOMETHING.
It’s not all about winning.
If you have a child in any little league sport and you don’t know this, you probably wear yourself out griping about the umpires, cursing the coaches and screaming at all the players (sometimes including your own) to “hussle-up.”
The game is not always just about the win. Sometimes it’s a learning experience. What great person was that who said you learn more from failures? I don’t remember who said it, but whoever it was, they sure have some smartacles.
It’s like life sometimes… We worry so much about getting ahead or “winning” at something and totally miss the real reason we are here. Our purpose is to learn, love and grow. You miss out on so much if you are only concerned with getting to the next level. I know competition is healthy, but is griping, kicking, screaming or gritting your teeth even worth the energy it uses up? Do any of those add minutes to your life, make your heart stronger or your smile bigger? Just like griping at the ump–is it really going to get him to change the call?
Do we still do it sometimes? Yes, because we are just thinking of the win. Well, sometimes, we aren’t thinking at all. We end up making fools out of ourselves for nothing. Anyway…enough little league talk!
Back to why we aren’t supposed to be like a little league “heckler”– we need to remember that learning is important, loving is essential and these two things are what will make us grow into the productive, no drama mamas (or papas), stand-up (not hussle-up) citizens we need to be.
Learn, love, grow and it’s not all about winning.
We are ALL life long learners! The future belongs to THE CURIOUS!
Love this shorts little video, because it reminds us that duhhh–we gotta keep learning TO LIVE.
“To learn is to live.”
Why do we do it?
Why do we continue to do the same things over and over thinking THIS TIME it will be different!?
As ‘ole Albert there is saying, that is CRAZY!
We have to change, adapt and learn. We must move forward, improve and expand through experiences. LEARN FROM EXPERIENCES. I’m pretty sure he was talking about some type of scientific reasoning or what not, but applied to the every day–it’s the same.
Try, try again, but don’t do it the same way. Failing, downfalls, wrong turns and bad choices pop up in our days, but ya can’t just stay in the rut. Ya gotta get up, dust off and go at it again! THIS TIME, try mastering it, conquering the beast, fixing the problem or climbing that mountain in a DIFFERENT way, with a DIFFERENT outlook and use some DIFFERENT tools. Maybe it will go better this time…
and you won’t just look INSANE!
“I use a keyboard more than a pen.”
I’m screaming: LET’S GO TEACHERS OF TODAY!!! WE CAN LEARN SO THAT OUR STUDENTS CAN LEARN!!!
