“I hate my life.”

I heard this horrible statement today, “I hate my life.”  It was given at a very insignificant moment.  A moment where no one was burning alive.  There was basically no chaos.   The building wasn’t falling in and as far as I know the earth was not trembling.

IMMEDIATELY, The word PERSPECTIVE popped into my head.  What a skewed perspective that one statement held.

I wanted to say out loud, “REALLY?”  (I didn’t, but I also wanted to say…) Do you really hate your life?  Are you in enough mental anguish to HATE this exact moment of your life?  Are you in physical pain?  Did your mother abandon you, dog die or tooth chip?  What about this…Are you dying of cancer?  I’m pretty sure the answer to all of those questions IF ANSWERED ABSOLUTELY HONESTLY would have been NO.

Once again, I have a person in my life who will soon die of cancer.  I know she will be with Jesus and of that we can absolutely and joyously be certain of, AMEN!  To say good-bye to another person I love thanks to cancer makes me shake my head.  I know God will take us all the way we are to die, but *sigh* the word cancer makes my stomach lurch.  It makes tears come to my eyes and my head hurt.  I pray that this diagnosis somehow works for a good in the lives of people who love this wonderful person.  Duhhh…God is in control so, I already know that good will happen.

Right now, though…

I can’t stop thinking about PERSPECTIVE …AND can’t get this insane statement out of my head: “I hate my life.”

REALLY?!?

SPEED BUMP!

My recent FB post:

LIFE: The road is sooooooo smooooooooooth, (insert Joe Stokes voice here) rockin’ and beeboppin’ along, whistling like the Andy Griffith show, singing a zipadeedoodahh song, saying like my wonderful friend Johnny Coleman always says, “What a day, Lord, WHAT A DAY!”
THEN, out of absolutely no where…there’s a stupid speed bump…BUHH DONK!!!

Not to worry, not to fret… it’s only there to slow ya down for a bit.
That’s all it can do—SLOW YOU DOWN..it CANNOT stop ya!

IT WILL NOT STOP ME!!!

SERIOUSLY…speed bumps are just little bumps in the road put there to slow you down.  They are not there to make you totally stop and give up on your journey.  Their main purpose is to slow you down.  In life, things happen that make us want to give up.  Things happen that make us want to run away.  We wish for things to be erased or people to accidentally trip on their way to the bathroom (maybe even worse!).  But those things are SPEED BUMPS!  They do slow us down, they do make us change direction sometimes, but they can never STOP US.  They don’t have the control to stop you.

You keep on keepin’ on cuz you can!

That is what I choose today… EVERYDAY!

How can I hate it?

I know you are not supposed to hate…

But I’ve voiced it and written it before…

I HATE CANCER.

I hate the word.  I don’t like the fear it brings.  SO MANY have been effected negatively by it in someway or another.

BUT I thought of this today:

If cancer had some kind of hand in my brother giving his heart absolutely and completely to Jesus,

How can I hate it?

I haven’t given cancer much credit for doing anything like that.  I’m the type of person that tries to look on the bright side of things and always on the search for THE GOOD in things.  How can I think of cancer in a good way, though?

I still don’t like what it does to the body. In the end, it took my brother’s mind, there was such confusion.  Cancer is so ugly,

but if it had some part of leading him to Jesus–WHOLLY AND FULLY–

How can I hate it?

What if my brother’s death brings others to Jesus?  Cancer was part of it.  *sigh*  I’m so torn.  I really do not like cancer, but if it helps point anyone to JESUS…

How can I hate it?

And really truly, I know that in the end, cancer did not ultimately take my brother…

As one friend wrote to me today:

“Cancer tried to take my Daddy and Jesus took him instead.”  This is the ultimate comfort.

Death did not take my brother, cancer did not take my brother,

JESUS took him by the hand and led him to the glory we receive all thanks and praise to JESUS.

…and cancer may be able to take some credit in my brother’s decision to except that gift of glory..

How can I hate it?

EAT THE BROWNIES!

WHY!?!

This is another questioning blog today.  Why, Why, Why must people only look on the dark, ugly, nasty and gloomy side of life?  They wake up mad, go through the day spewing hate and bad breath (I just imagine) and then go to bed mad.

Why!?

Circumstance?  Past?  Baggage?  Constipation?  Upset stomach?

If you gave them a plate of chocolate chip cookies and told them have a happy day…they would think or even say, “I prefer brownies.”  Ok, if you gave them a plate of the best BROWNIES -in-the-world with a smiley face balloon and a chilly glass of milk… they would say, “I’m trying to watch what I eat.”   Really!?!  IT IS BROWNIES!  (the best ones in the world even)

Hersheysbrownies14

I’m pretty sure you get my point.

WHY!?!

Is this day so bad that you have to TRY (cuz it ain’t happening to this gal) and make others have a bad day too?  Would that actually make you “happy?”  OR would that somehow make your life, in some sick weird way, more meaningful?

NO.  I’m telling you right now, that is a NO.  Negative. Never, absolutely not, uh-uh and not at all.

Yes, I’m answering my own questions here.  It’s ok.  I do that sometimes.

It is most emphatically and positively truth that ATTITUDES ARE CONTAGIOUS.  Is yours worth catching?  When people look at me, I want them to WANT what I got!  I’m not hiding my light under a bushel–NO!  I’m gonna let it shine!  I am not extinguishing the fire of JOY the Almighty God has given me to share.  No way!  I’m gonna pass it out like goody bags at a birthday party!  Here’s one for you and you and you…

FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YOURSELF from the past baggage or circumstance that is darkening your days. Have a HAPPY!  Here, take a smile.  Do you need a hug?  Let go of whatever is making you look for the opposite of happy.  Take some Milk of Magnesia!  Whatever you gotta do!!!  But colon cleanse that nasty attitude OUT before you end up living your life alone or worse…with another stopped up negative nilly who can only compound the unhappiness in your life.  (Misery loves company? Eeeek!)

Do whatever you gotta do!!! Did I say that already?  Repetition means IT’S IMPORTANT!

Don’t be one of those people that can’t find happy anywhere…

DIG DEEP! Trudge through it.  Dust it off, wipe it away… until you find that treasure called HAPPINESS and …

JUST BE HAPPY.

(and eat the dadgum brownies!!!)

It’s ALL about ATTITUDE

I CHOOSE.

This has been a lovely day.

Well, in MOST parts. I had happy day wishes and neat gifts, a good breakfast, great church service, Papacitas, sunshine, rain, wind, good music, smiles… The happiness list is long.

How can one event ruin a day? It can’t. I must continue to remind myself that IT CANNOT do that!  The devil wants it to, but I refuse to allow it.

I won’t go into the ugliness of this day. Face it, if you look hard enough, you are sure to find some ugliness in every day. I choose NOT to do that.

I CHOOSE!

I will grab all the happiness of this day and run, arms wide open, through a field of sunshine and sprinkles!!!

I know, that sounds a bit crazy, but if that is what I have to imagine in order to give GOD all the glory for this day and rip any satisfaction the devil may think he deserves from it…

Then THAT is what I shall do!!!

BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT…

I CHOOSE.

Oh Happy Day to All!

And…

Happy Mother’s Day to all you Moms!

PERSPECTIVE

I have so many blogs that are labeled or just about perspective.  I try not to use the same title, but I had to on this one.

To me, that is the #1 thing that MAKES a circumstance or situation. It’s how you look at it.

Today, at the last general session of the leadership conference I was blessed to take 21 students to, our speaker was all about perspective.

Make sad happy–
By giving and not taking
By helping others
And doing all you can to make a change.
Don’t think you can’t, believe you CAN.

You are not who you are because of what you look like.
(AMEN!)
True leaders don’t judge others who don’t make the cut.
It’s not about me, it’s about what I’m honored and blessed to give you.
Your life is limitless.

Attitude is not a cliche.
It’s powerful.
-Alvin Law

This guy was a motivational speaker, but as he said, he wasn’t there to give us motivation, he wanted to give us
PERSPECTIVE.
He gave it to us by the example he lives. He gave it to us by his actions. He was born with no arms and instead of looking at that as a disability …he said it was just a little struggle or difficulty.  To overcome those –no matter what they are—we must work.
This is so true! We all have our hang ups whether physical or mental and we have to WORK, put effort to it to make it past them.  It doesn’t happen overnight or in one day. It happens because we make our attitude a habit. Attitude truly is power.  PERSPECTIVE is what drives our attitude or visa versa. To me, they are one in the same.
Here’s a little clip I found on YouTube featuring this speaker–
