Blue Bell and JESUS

Here in Texas, we love our BLUE BELL.  We like sweet tea, talking about how hot the weather is going to get, Bar-B-Q and Blue Bell.  We talk about football, how the team will be this year and discuss the date we believe Blue Bell will return.

Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Blackberry Cobbler, Rocky Road…

Whatever the fave may be, Blue Bell is the choice around here.

One of my friends said today, “If you are really wanting ice cream, any of it’s good.”   To most Blue Bell Addicts, that would be fightin’ words.  That would be the beginning of a major debate.

I do like ice cream, but as my friend said, if you are wanting it, almost any of it will satisfy you.  We like to be obsessed about so many things in this world.  I’m not trying to dis Blue Bell.  I do like Blue Bell.  I do!

My observation today is just this: ICE CREAM is good.  This life is good, but we as crazy humans have to find something to talk about.  Blue Bell has been a current event for several months now.  It’s been in the news, on the radio and the topic of several conversations all over Texas and beyond for a while now.

Why aren’t we so quick to talk to people about what Jesus has done for us?  Why not share GOD stories just as quick as we start small talk about a brand of ice cream?  Isn’t HE just as sweet as ice cream?

As most all of my blogs go…I’m talking to myself!  Why don’t I share Jesus MORE?  I want to tell people about the crazy awesome stuff that happens in my life, because I know my God is real.  I do!  I want to be able to talk to others just as easy about HIS return as I am about the return of Blue Bell.  You never know which will be first!

Don’t ask yourself when Blue Bell is coming… Ask yourself are you ready when JESUS comes?

I hope the second question is much easier to answer than the first one.

Saw this pic on facebook this morning.  It made me recall a couple of things I’ve had to deal with in my profession this year with students and have witnessed with colleagues in the past as well.

Our students–of all ages–don’t understand the accessibility they are exposed to…they constantly assume it’s no big deal.

Social media is just that–SOCIAL –almost just like face to face, but THE DIFFERENCE IS today’s social (media) gives us this since of false protection, because we THINK we won’t have to suffer instant repercussions from WHATEVER we are posting.  It’s almost like we think no one will see it OR only the people we really want to see it will be the only viewers.

This is true for any postings –a simple selfie, a rant about our government, a picture telling someone they are number one with your middle finger instead of the index finger which really means something mean and vulgar AND THE LIST GOES ON…

It’s all accessible to anyone and EVERYone–NOT our selected few.  We forget this somehow.  We forget that what we type, what we take a picture of, what we post—is actually REAL.  It’s whatever we did prior to social media, but out there for an audience of a billion times more than it was before.

Looking at the picture above, I thought about us all…

THEN shared the picture and posted the words below along with it:

It’s not just 6th grade–It’s all ages. We are becoming so open to anything and everything that nothing is considered vulgar, kept sacred or left to our imagination. *sigh*

The end.

Excitement sharpens Excitement!

Just recently, I was so honored to serve on staff at a TEXAS Association of Student Councils Summer Leadership Workshop. We were at SFA there in Nacogdoches and I was the Advisors Consultant. It was such a fun time, because not only was I able to share at our advisor sessions, but I learned so much from the other advisors, got to see my super student council friends and met so many new fun and interesting people. Connections are so important and they truly do energize you!

As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭27‬:‭17‬ NLT)
Excitement sharpens excitement!

I came home excited about so many things. I have new ideas, a new outlook on some old projects and a renewed attitude toward this vocation and calling I know GOD has blessed me with. Charging your batteries is something we must all take time to do and this workshop did just that for me!

This workshop also reminded me that being a life long learner helps keep that excitement as well. It also helps keep ya feeling young! It might even hold those wrinkles and grey hair back. (Lotion and hair dye helps a little too…hehe) So, keep learning!

If you stop learning, you will forget what you already know. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭19‬:‭27‬ CEV)
I don’t want to forget what I know!!!

Make connections.
Keep learning.
Stay excited…
Excitement sharpens excitement!!!

Thank you TASC for this workshop opportunity and thank you to all those who attended those fun, learning-full, EXCITING advisor sessions!!!

Here’s my excited face:

You have an AMAZING idea!

LOVE THIS LITTLE VIDEO!  I have to say, I found it on another blog (click here to read it)  that was talking about the introverted student and how, as teachers, we should utilize technology to help those students share their thoughts.

My thoughts on the video…

You truly are your worse critic.  You downplay the awesome things you do.  Your drawings, writings, your ability to sing or dance, and your ideas seem humdrum to you.  WHY do we do this?!  We have great ideas!  When we collaborate and put ideas together–they are EVEN BETTER!  Don’t hold back.  What you offer may be the small snowball that turns into a snow-bolder!  Allow your thoughts to become words and don’t be afraid of sharing!  You never know …the stuff you are holding back could be the next BIG THING!

LAURA

Click on the picture above.  The blog it takes you to is created by this young lady who is on fire for the Lord.

Meet Laura!  She listens to GOD and is an inspiration!  I am so glad God allowed our paths to cross.

Laura came to speak to our youth class last night at church.  Her testimony, verses she shared and her huge heart for missions was amazingly apparent.  I could see the Lord in her eyes and hear Him in her story.  We were so blessed to have her share.

That is what it is all about.  Sharing what GOD has done for us, what He continues to do and we should always be in great hopeful expectation of things to come.

Thank you Laura for being courageous in sharing your story.

Thank YOU LORD for sending her our way!
