If you’re happy and you know it…

You know that song… sing it with me:

If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands. (clap clap)
Just thinking about that song makes me think of younger years when we liked to act a whole lot more silly than we do now.  I still like to act silly, but it’s frowned upon by my age peers.  I guess that is why I teach, but even some of the high schoolers I teach are “too old” to have fun anymore.  Some think I’m just the crazy art teacher.  I’m good with that.  It’s guaranteed that they will remember me!
Are you needing some fun today?
Don’t you remember finger painting, playing in the mud and riding a bike?  What are the things you thought of when you jumped out of the bed in the summer time –usually way passed 10 or even passed noon?
I always thought of who I was going to play with that day.  What friend could I coax out of the a/c to run the roads with?  What kind of fort could we build that day out of sticks or pine straw or just piles of dirt.  Could we create the perfect floor plan for my future mansion?  Would my dad let us ride in the back of the truck later (when he got home from work) to the local store to get a coke and some peanuts or even some chocolate?
I never ever worried about unloading the dishwasher, making my bed or paying bills.  I never thought of the vitamins I needed to take or what shoes would be comfortable to wear today.  I never concerned myself with dusting (gag!), what I was going to cook for dinner or any type of national news.
I know times change and you are like, what is the point?  I’m not sure what the point is really.  Maybe I will get to it in a minute.
I know as adults we have different responsibilities and different mindsets.  We have deadlines and “bigger fish to fry” as they say.  (yes, some say that)  We are concerned with things that we never even knew about as a kid.
I’m not saying all this so we can neglect our important obligations and go ride a bike or make a mud pie.  I don’t really like to touch mud anymore (that’s another story).
I am just saying…
Sometimes we need to dress up like a cow on COW APPRECIATION DAY @Chick-fil-a and eat some free nuggets!  Don’t be scared to have some crazy-people are
going to look at you like you have lost all your marbles-kind of fun.   Maybe this doesn’t include face paint,  a white shirt with big black spots, floppy ears or singing IF YOU’RE HAPPY AND YOU KNOW IT to a restaurant full of people…
Maybe you just need to de-stress by worrying less.
Perhaps you need to ride a bike.  I’d say borrow the neighbor kid’s bike, but a lot of kids don’t have bikes these days.  I hate that for them, because riding down a hill with the wind in your face is a very awesome experience.  I know why dogs like to stick their heads out of the window going down the road!
Get up where you are now and do some jumping jacks like you did in elementary PE class.  If that don’t make you laugh …or even pee a little… you need more drastic measures.
Or maybe you just need to sing the song…
but make sure you tell your face to show it!  Smiling alone can turn not only a frown upside down, but a day away from “Ug” to “WooooHoooo!”

If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands. (clap clap)

Yes, I’m addicted to TEDtalks.

TEDtalk I want to share today. Inspirational.

I Saw Jesus!

I see Jesus a lot.  If you are not a believer, you are probably thinking “whatever,” and you might not want to read this blog.  It’s ok.  Always your choice.  I’m gonna tell it no matter what.  😉

If you are a believer, you will probably totally understand what I’m about to say.  I hope as a Christian, you see Jesus as I do…

I SAW JESUS!  I am not talking about the sandal wearing, long haired, gentle speaking guy we all picture when reading the Bible or looking at those stories illustrated for our children.  I’m talking I SAW JESUS in the voice of a man tonight.  When I say I see Jesus a lot…I do.  I see him in the clouds, in a smile just when I needed it…in a circumstance or compliment.  Tonight, He was there in song.  All I could do tonight when hearing this voice is thank God for allowing me to see Him.  I just praised Him as I listened to the words and music He so perfectly illustrated through the man who stood in front of the crowd.

Most every time I hear the National Anthem sung, I get goosebumps.  There is a pride and a sentiment during that song that makes me so thankful I live in the US.  I say this to help explain the feelings I had when I heard the music tonight.  It was that feeling when I hear the anthem times a million.  It was a humbleness that one feels when standing by something enormous.  It’s that feeling of being overwhelmed by something totally out of your control.  All those feelings rolled up into one….that is what I felt tonight.

I was so blessed to be able to meet Cleveland Brown tonight and to hear him sing praises and to sing a long with the songs he presented.  I could feel God moving.  I saw Jesus…in the music.  It was amazing.  You can tell that when this man sings, God is sending His message through that voice.

Got my picture taken with the man that shared Jesus with us tonight:

Got the cards I ordered to share:

Don’t hold back!

15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  –Ephesians 5

I’m not going to talk about alcoholics today.  Ha!  I read this chapter of Ephesians and these verses popped out to me and not because it talked about being drunk; although, I have been effected by alcoholism in many different ways in my past.  It’s something I dealt with in my family from about the age 11.  It’s something I have to be conscious of now.

Anyway!  I’m not talking about that today (not to say it won’t come up sometime) …

I see this verse as a wake up to what WE NEED TO DO… It’s more of a DO than a DO NOT message to me.

Look at the part where it says “INSTEAD.”

We are to be HIGH ON THE SPIRIT!  Once we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we can then be free to do what we are really here to do.  We are meant to sing and speak praises.   Don’t let anything of this world hold you back.  Look toward the good–praise God for all he provides.  Don’t be oppressed by things around you which are not of God.   SING AND MAKE MUSIC FROM YOUR HEART TO THE LORD!  (my favorite part)

If you read the verses before the ones I’ve posted, in Chapter 5, it talks about other things we shouldn’t do, but also about how we should always be THANKFUL just as the end of these verses.  I love the way Paul tells us what we shouldn’t do to emphasize what we SHOULD DO.

So be thankful in all you do because you have the SPIRIT in you and don’t forget to…

open that mouth up and …

Moving Talent

EVERYONE has talent.

A 16 year-old Marlana VanHoose who is blind and disabled was blessed with a God-given voice. You’ve got to hear her sing…

EVERYONE has talent.

I’ve never really thought about this. Not sure why I haven’t. My eyes have been opened to this verse and I absolutely LOVE IT! God sings joyfully over us…WOW! We sing praises to HIM, of course, but HE does the same for us. That is so comforting to me and overwhelming at the same time! Love this verse:

The Lord your God is with you,
the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.”
-Zephaniah 3:17
