If you’re happy and you know it…

You know that song… sing it with me:

If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands. (clap clap)
Just thinking about that song makes me think of younger years when we liked to act a whole lot more silly than we do now.  I still like to act silly, but it’s frowned upon by my age peers.  I guess that is why I teach, but even some of the high schoolers I teach are “too old” to have fun anymore.  Some think I’m just the crazy art teacher.  I’m good with that.  It’s guaranteed that they will remember me!
Are you needing some fun today?
Don’t you remember finger painting, playing in the mud and riding a bike?  What are the things you thought of when you jumped out of the bed in the summer time –usually way passed 10 or even passed noon?
I always thought of who I was going to play with that day.  What friend could I coax out of the a/c to run the roads with?  What kind of fort could we build that day out of sticks or pine straw or just piles of dirt.  Could we create the perfect floor plan for my future mansion?  Would my dad let us ride in the back of the truck later (when he got home from work) to the local store to get a coke and some peanuts or even some chocolate?
I never ever worried about unloading the dishwasher, making my bed or paying bills.  I never thought of the vitamins I needed to take or what shoes would be comfortable to wear today.  I never concerned myself with dusting (gag!), what I was going to cook for dinner or any type of national news.
I know times change and you are like, what is the point?  I’m not sure what the point is really.  Maybe I will get to it in a minute.
I know as adults we have different responsibilities and different mindsets.  We have deadlines and “bigger fish to fry” as they say.  (yes, some say that)  We are concerned with things that we never even knew about as a kid.
I’m not saying all this so we can neglect our important obligations and go ride a bike or make a mud pie.  I don’t really like to touch mud anymore (that’s another story).
I am just saying…
Sometimes we need to dress up like a cow on COW APPRECIATION DAY @Chick-fil-a and eat some free nuggets!  Don’t be scared to have some crazy-people are
going to look at you like you have lost all your marbles-kind of fun.   Maybe this doesn’t include face paint,  a white shirt with big black spots, floppy ears or singing IF YOU’RE HAPPY AND YOU KNOW IT to a restaurant full of people…
Maybe you just need to de-stress by worrying less.
Perhaps you need to ride a bike.  I’d say borrow the neighbor kid’s bike, but a lot of kids don’t have bikes these days.  I hate that for them, because riding down a hill with the wind in your face is a very awesome experience.  I know why dogs like to stick their heads out of the window going down the road!
Get up where you are now and do some jumping jacks like you did in elementary PE class.  If that don’t make you laugh …or even pee a little… you need more drastic measures.
Or maybe you just need to sing the song…
but make sure you tell your face to show it!  Smiling alone can turn not only a frown upside down, but a day away from “Ug” to “WooooHoooo!”

If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands. (clap clap)

STRESS SUCKS…

Stress sucks the life out of your day.  SERIOUSLY!  Stress sucks the joy out of your attitude and the smile right off your face!  Stress sucks the energy out of whatever situation you are in.  Stress makes progress and productivity seem like a volcano of insanity!

Why do we stress?  Why do we worry?  Why do we get concerned about stuff that will work itself out?

Here’s what I get stressed about—

The list of to-dos that seem to get longer and longer…AND LONGER.  I get overwhelmed sometimes and feel the stress in my neck.  I get cranky, short tempered and sometimes even cry.  …whhhaaat!?!

BUT THEN…

I REMEMBER stress is what the devil uses to make us crazy.  It doesn’t just “suck”…it’s a tool of the devil.  Stress is probably one of the first things he grabs for when trying to frazzle us…Gag!

I’m rebuking his power right now!

Here’s my story of the week…

This week is our Homecoming Week at school/work.  Months ago, I planned to be part of a ministry weekend with a friend of mine so I will not be here on Friday for our pep rally or game.  It makes me sad, but happy at the same time.

Here’s the sad…I won’t —be here for the seniors and their Homecoming game  —see the former students who will be coming in for reunions and such —get to share in the excitement of our friendship exchange with the other team and the crowning of the “royalty.”

Here’s the happy…I will —get to be on a trip with one of my good friends who loves JESUS and shows Him all around to everyone anyway she can  —get to share Jesus through song!  —get to LAUGH and get to recharge my JOY jets!   ALSO, my coworkers I gladly call my friends have helped me out and covered all the things I do during this crazy Homecoming Friday.  One friend is announcing at the pep rally while another is taking care of contests and another one is filling in at the game that night!  I am beyond happy.  It is absolutely confirmed that I AM LOVED.  What a great feeling!

The devil can take his stupid stress and stuff it!  Stress sucks, but MY GOD can put people in my life to show me that HIS blessings shower down when the devil thinks he’s got me chasing my own tail.  That ole devil ain’t got nuthin’ on MY GOD!  My God is real.  My God is alive.  My God can and will and does –all the time– GREAT AND WONDERFUL things!

Romans 8:28

THANK YOU GOD!

Amen!

Love what you Do, Do what you LOVE

This month is THE MONTH we see hearts and cupids and red and pink—I think it’s funny how all the pink and red look so good in the store displays and on those gushy cards, but if you were to wear those two colors together –people would think you are definitely an 80s child or just have a big fashion catastrophe going on OR MAYBE you are trying out to be a cupid in one of those store windows???

THIS is the LOVE month—in a WILL YOU BE MY Valentine sense where we ask others to “BE MINE” or give them cute little candy messages that say “U-R-COOL” OR “HOT MOMMA.” (Hot Momma is my fave! haha!)

But instead of just using this month to celebrate our love for one another and think about how we should love more—why don’t we do this all of the time?!?  Love is important ALL OF THE TIME, right?

This is a tough month for me—I am a solar powered person.  The fact that we have had about 5 straight days with very little sunlight is painful to me.  It’s hard for me to keep my sunny attitude during this time when there IS– NO– SUN!  But I hang on to the fact that LOVE is something that can’t be frozen –it is an ever present thing even when the sun is not shining.

…singing now…

The sun’ll come up tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar that tomorrowwwww…there’ll be sun…

God wrote that song for me especially for days like these.  I don’t know if the sun will be out tomorrow (probably not here), but I keep in mind that it is still shining!

So, there are things that get us down.  For me, the lack of sun can do it.  For you, it probably something else like…???

How do we get over these things and remember to love ALL THE TIME?

Keep on loving no matter what!

You’ve heard DON’T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF?

That seems like a cliché thing to say or something you hear people say, but don’t really mean.

BUT REALLY—

This is so important in keeping your LOVE attitude.

Circumstances creep up on us and we get all stressed out and flip our lids…but you can’t let rule you.

In my line of work, “small stuff” comes in form of a 16 year old (or so) child who whines because I make them draw and color in my class.  REALLY!?  We even finger paint sometimes!  It’s not rocket science.   My class should be a class they enjoy and allow their minds create and imagine.  I think after about age 10, students forget that they are awesome artists… and then they come in my class declaring they can’t draw a straight line or make a stick figure.  I wish I had a true tally on how many times I heard either of those statements.  Oh! But I’m getting off my topic a little…

IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT ATTITUDE, no matter what small (or even big) annoyances we have—we can enjoy everything.

And this takes a lot of LOVE for somethings, some instances and especially in the case of some people.  Loving those that annoy us is the hardest,  BUT WE GOTTA DO IT! — if we want all of our months to be full of love.

We have to stop letting little things bother us and be happy.

Love those around you even if it takes a lot of tongue biting and prayer.

To make more room for LOVE ya gotta get rid of worry.

DON’T WORRY –BEEE HAPPY—another popular saying thanks to that song from, I believe, the 80s.  Remember the whistle in it?

Here’s a little song I wrote—

(Remember some of the lyrics:)

… in every life we have some trouble, when you worry you make it double. ..don’t worry, be happy!

Worry is from the devil.  It stops you from showing the love you need to show and most of the time, receiving the love you need.

You know when you worry it’s hard for people to love you.  Most of the time it makes you grumpy and grouchy.   I know when something big is coming up in my schedule that I may be a bit apprehensive about…I get a little crazy.  I try my hardest to keep it in perspective and keep a smile on my face.

STRESS AND WORRY are two major things you have to get rid of in order to allow LOVE to lead you life.  You can’t love what you do and do what you love if you are stressed and worried about what you do.

In Matthew 6 it says DO NOT WORRY ABOUT TOMORROW, IT WILL TAKE CARE OF ITSELF.  YOU HAVE PLENTY TO WORRY ABOUT TODAY.

In other words: live in today.  Take care of now.  Do not worry about tomorrow or what is coming, take care of the present!

The definition of worry is TO TORMENT ONESELF WITH OR SUFFER FROM DISTURBING THOUGHTS –OR TO FRET.

Who in the world wants that!?  EWW.

Some may say, “I’ve always been a worrier.”  To that I say SO!…anyone can reform.  I believe that with LOVE anyone can become a better person, a better teacher, spouse, mom, dad– HUMAN BEING.

Get rid of that stuff that clouds your mind and slows you down.  Make more room for LOVE.  Love what you do even when it’s something that you don’t normally enjoy.  Go at it with an attitude of love.

BE BLESSED in the fact that you can show a CAN DO ATTITUDE AND KEEP ON KEEPIN’ ON.  Don’t let things of your world get you down …get a perspective of LOVE!

Yes, I’m yelling all this:

LOVE YOUR SPOUSE EVEN WHEN HE ASKS YOU WHY YOU HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER BOTTLE OF FINGERNAIL POLISH SINCE YOU ALREADY HAVE 200 BOTTLES STORED IN A RUBBERMAID TUB UNDER YOUR BED. (Just because he doesn’t support your addiction, doesn’t mean you can’t still love him!)

LOVE YOUR BOSS EVEN WHEN HE GETS THE STUDENT OFFICE AIDE TO BRING ALL THE CONTENTS OF YOUR MAILBOX DOWN TO YOUR ROOM AND PUTS IT IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR DESK, BECAUSE IT WAS TOO FULL TO PUT ANOTHER THING IN.  (This was actually kind of funny and he still denies he had anything to do with it—blames it all on the student. I still love him …and the kid too.

LOVE THE FLAT TIRE YOU GET ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE WHERE YOU CAN’T EVEN GET OUT OF THE CAR AND YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO RESCUE YOU.  LOVE IT THO, BECAUSE YOU KNOW THAT IT WILL HOLD AIR AGAIN EVENTUALLY AND YOU ARE BLESSED TO HAVE A VEHICLE (…because some don’t.)

You know, I heard a saying this past weekend –at church, I believe:

I hated the fact I didn’t have a good pair of shoes until I saw someone who didn’t have feet.

Wow, is that putting something in perspective!  Look to what you HAVE, not what you “have not.”

Look to the blessings you have in your life and LOVE WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU ARE DOING…

That is the only way you can make EVERY MONTH a love month.

It might not always be PINK AND RED and full of cheesy sentiments (On cards that cost like 5 bucks!) …but it will be full of love!

LOVE WHAT YOU DO, DO WHAT YOU LOVE!

UNEXPECTED CRAZINESS

You never know where the craziness of life will pop out from!  It may come in form of anything!  I have been shown this so many times, but who really knows when it’s going to “BOO!” ???  You may feel tensions rise or the hair on the back of your neck tingle, but you really can’t pin point what’s going to happen next.  I really do not want to get into specifics, but just remember this—always be on guard and be ready to roll with it!  I’m not saying stay stressed and freaked out about WHAT will happen next, but always be ready to combat some craziness.  Sometimes when you are looking one way,  it may creep up from the other.  Looking back at some of these moments of unexpected craziness, I have to laugh.  I laugh at how UNEXPECTED they were and how ridiculous the situation ended up being.  I try my very hardest not to stress about life in general, but I do know there are things that make my patience dwindle.  UNEXPECTED CRAZINESS is one of those things and I’m writing this blog to tell you what I keep telling myself tonight–BE READY AND ROLL WITH IT!  No matter what the craziness, you can make it a HAPPY CRAZINESS!  Step back and look at it in a different way, a new perspective– and don’t forget to put a smile on your face.

Breaks are ESSENTIAL!

Breaks are needed. We are so blessed to be able to take breaks. Life gets crazy and busy and sometimes we let it stress us out. Breaks are ESSENTIAL. It’s our Spring Break this week. The first couple of days have been great! I’ve taken a nap, watched my kids have fun, created some interesting art, listened to music, studied, worshiped, praised and just been UNstressED. It’s been great! I want to make sure I say, I do love my job and will miss my students and friends over the week AND I do enjoy the routine that comes along with our life–but sometimes—WE NEED A BREAK. We need a good ole SPRING BREAK. Whether you are able to take an actual Spring Break like schools across our nation do or not–it’s important for a break. Take time to stop life and use a few hours, days, even a week or so, to talk with God, just relax, create, and do things that make you happy. Breaks are needed. Breaks are ESSENTIAL!

Stress, Stress, GO AWAY!

stressed
What a crazy stress-filled week this has been! I feel like, at times, I was chained to my computer creating emails, answering emails or publishing things to use for an upcoming event. I had so many other things to do as well. It was kinda-let’s say-CHAOTIC! Thank God for great students, great leaders and great people to work with and for. Our student body president worked and worked on all kinds of things we had to do for our district meeting. My boss helped me with pizza-detail. My friends gave me consoling looks and words. I am so blessed!
SERIOUSLY!
I hope you are blessed in life by being surrounded by great people that help make your Stress, Stress, GO AWAY!

Crazy Days

Some days ya feel crazy like the pic below (found via Pinterest), but we all have to remember that the things that stress us out will be behind us soon! Yay!!!
