Blue Bell and JESUS

Here in Texas, we love our BLUE BELL.  We like sweet tea, talking about how hot the weather is going to get, Bar-B-Q and Blue Bell.  We talk about football, how the team will be this year and discuss the date we believe Blue Bell will return.

Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Blackberry Cobbler, Rocky Road…

Whatever the fave may be, Blue Bell is the choice around here.

One of my friends said today, “If you are really wanting ice cream, any of it’s good.”   To most Blue Bell Addicts, that would be fightin’ words.  That would be the beginning of a major debate.

I do like ice cream, but as my friend said, if you are wanting it, almost any of it will satisfy you.  We like to be obsessed about so many things in this world.  I’m not trying to dis Blue Bell.  I do like Blue Bell.  I do!

My observation today is just this: ICE CREAM is good.  This life is good, but we as crazy humans have to find something to talk about.  Blue Bell has been a current event for several months now.  It’s been in the news, on the radio and the topic of several conversations all over Texas and beyond for a while now.

Why aren’t we so quick to talk to people about what Jesus has done for us?  Why not share GOD stories just as quick as we start small talk about a brand of ice cream?  Isn’t HE just as sweet as ice cream?

As most all of my blogs go…I’m talking to myself!  Why don’t I share Jesus MORE?  I want to tell people about the crazy awesome stuff that happens in my life, because I know my God is real.  I do!  I want to be able to talk to others just as easy about HIS return as I am about the return of Blue Bell.  You never know which will be first!

Don’t ask yourself when Blue Bell is coming… Ask yourself are you ready when JESUS comes?

I hope the second question is much easier to answer than the first one.

I’ve blogged about my brother recently. (Jimmy Knox)  He’s at home with Hospice care battling cancer.  Today was a day filled with many phone calls and lots of visits.  He was his normal self–joking with his friends and telling stories about memories I can barely, if at all, remember.  He laughed out loud on more than one occasion.  The medicine that has, at times, made his speech incomprehensible was held at bay today.  It didn’t take over his brain or bind his lips.  I am so thankful for today!  The cancer is doing it’s wicked job.  I hate it.  But for now, my brother is doing all he can…keepin’ on keepin’ on.  He ain’t dead!  He ain’t done!  He has hope for each breath and second that God gifts him.

Although some days have been so hard to watch, his HOPE is amazing to watch.

Many of his friends have reached out to ask me about him or tell me about their experience with him.  They have all talked about how sweet of a friend my brother has been to them.  I’m proud of him.  I wanted to share the sweet, sincere description his friend Anthony Bonnette wrote about him today:

We all like to think that we are unique, that we’re not really like anybody else. We all like to think that we are still that same innocent kid from the yearbook pictures, just trapped in a grownup body. I think that way about myself. Jimbo  however, was not like anybody I have ever known. He was a child for the whole 30 years I knew him, sometimes fussy, but almost always genuine and sweet. What always amazed me about Jim was his Hope. God blessed him with a never ending reserve of sweet, unrelenting belief in the promise of tomorrow. Soon, Jimbo will leave this world that has failed to deliver on almost any of it’s promises to him, but against all odds, his Hope remains. So when I think about my friend Jim, who has been a much better friend to me than I’ve ever been to anyone, when I think about his unabashed smile, when I remember his booming laugh, and when I am struck by the hollow blow of never seeing him again in this life, it is then that I remember his defining characteristic. And I Hope.

This weekend I was blessed with some awesome words:

Do not say ANYTHING about yourself that GOD HIMSELF wouldn’t agree with.

An awesome lady named Gwyn shared that.  She came to the realization one day that this is important.  I SO AGREE!

Then, I was listening to a preacher named Joel Osteen…  (Side note: I know a lot of people think he’s just a feel good preacher and they don’t think he speaks truth or uses the Bible or even points people to Jesus… EVERYONE has their opinion.  I have mine too and mine is based on actually listening to several of his podcasts/sermons where he DOES talk about being positive, quotes and uses the BIBLE, asks and leads people to accept JESUS and speaks on how our lives should be lived through Jesus Christ.  Just putting that out there.)  One of his facebook posts keeps coming to me which is:

Proverbs 6:2, says, “You are snared with the words of your mouth.” Snared means to be trapped. Your words can trip you, what you say can cause you to stumble, and it can keep you from your potential. Don’t set the limits for your life with your words.

THIS KEEPS COMING TO MY MIND. OUR WORDS MATTER! Even when you are speaking to yourself.  ‪#‎truth‬

I just posted that on MY facebook.

I tell my students this all the time.  I encourage them to be content and happy with what they look like and who they are.  I do my best to boost their everyday self concept and confidence.  But when it comes to me…

I don’t always talk nice to myself.  I should.  Why shouldn’t I?  I’m a pretty sweet person to other people, why not to myself?  I am usually a pretty confident person, but for some reason, sometimes, I talk ugly to myself.  WHAT!?!   I have already confirmed in earlier blogs that I AM A SUCCESS.  I have an awesome family, great friends and soooooo many other blessings.  I cannot list them all!  Why should I ever call myself or refer to myself as anything but awesome?  God made me.  God loves me.  God wants me to love me, because HE DID A GREAT JOB ON ME!  There is no reason why I should think or say otherwise.

More Journal/Sketchbook/Planner

Below are my last two layouts for my summer document life journal. The bird theme has been my fave so far.  I’m so glad I was introduced to this neat way of documenting at the workshop I went to at the beginning of my summer.  It combines scrapbooking, journaling, sketching, making pretty stuff, quotes, etc…and I LOVE IT!  It’s art, right!?!  That is why I LOVE IT!

((Think about huddling up and working together!  I love this visual!))

Relationship is key.  It is important to build relationships in every area of your life.  The ultimate relationship, of course, is with Jesus.  That is a period, the end, no discussion there–JESUS is the answer to everything!  #1, numero uno, the TOPS, –THE FIRST.

After you have that figured out, all other relationships can be right.

That seems kind of deep to start out a blog on collaboration, but I just wanted to clarify and identify that relationship as the first one everyone should get straight BEFORE ALL OTHERS.

All aspects of our lives are better when we are able to collaborate –work together, create a team, move toward a common goal — with others.  It is how I learn best and I can bet MOST people would feel the same way.  Believe me, I can tell when a person is the total opposite.  They are the ones that CONTINUOUSLY to tell you all they know without allowing you to speak at all, bark orders, interrupt you, add their comments even when not wanted, try and make you feel unintelligent and basically strive to undermine anything you set out to do or accomplish even if it takes lying or better described as speaking falsities which they refer to as facts.  So, if you are one of those, then this blog is not for you.  If you are A TEAM PLAYER, keep reading…

Today was a wonderful day of COLLABORATION.  We teachers were able to team up with teachers of the same subject area from other schools and share ideas, lessons, projects and whatever else we saw fit to talk about.  I was blessed to be able to be teamed up with an art teacher  who is super talented, smart and so very sweet.  You can go check out the great stuff she does on her FB page: KELLY LAMINACK.  Besides being a great art teacher, she also owns a gallery where any one can be a great artist!

Fun fun stuff!

Compared to our morning yesterday which consisted of a three hour lecture on STAAR testing data and how we can make our students think (UG!), this morning was like an AWESOME PRIZE you might win from Publishers Clearing House!  I do not exaggerate.  Just telling you how I really feel.  😉

More about today: I got some great ideas, definitely for sure will use a couple new projects we talked about and am looking into some new supplies I never knew existed.  WOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!  If you have read my blog at all, you may of caught onto the fact that I love to learn NEW STUFF and I relish and cherish the time I get to create and explore art of all kinds, but especially with a new idea and NEW ART MEDIA!  *another holler here*

So, thank you for today’s COLLABORATION opportunity OCISD!!!  Loved it!  ***Thumbs up!*** Five Stars!

And a super special thank You Jesus for allowing me to develop great relationships, because I put the one I have with YOU FIRST!

My husband’s grandmother or MEMAW is a super lady who we all
love very much. She doesn’t do a whole lot of cooking these days, but she really is the best cook I’ve ever known. She is very partial to my husband which I think is adorable. He is a great man. (Yes, I know I’m biased.) This picture was taken today at the family Christmas celebration. I just had to use it for my blog, because out of all the photos we took today (including the snow pics, which snowing on Christmas in East Texas is crazy awesome–a miracle from God!) this is the sweetest picture I took. It’s definitely a keeper!!!
Thanks Memaw, for being GREAT!
