TIME SLIPS BY!

It’s almost been a month since I’ve posted anything on this awesome blog.  That is crazy!

It’s just another example of how time slips by!  The last almost month has been full of so many things I can reflect upon.

The close of the school year always has me thinking about the great positives that this year brought.  I know some negative things happened, but as usual, I choose to focus on the positives.  I understand the negatives help us learn too, but the positives are the things we want to repeat or build on the most.

Positives…

Well, first we made it to today!  DUHHHHH!  Some people never ever never look at it like that, but really, think about it. YOU MADE IT! Yay!

Successes:  There were so many at OCHS!  We had teams win district, go to playoffs and succeed like never before.  We had our academics soar like eagles, art works bring medals home, ag kids go to state and smiles on faces that some thought would never appear!  We had teachers do great things through lessons, extra curricular and life-long learning experiences.  We had successful pep-rallies, 5ks and one of the best field days we call “COLOR WARS” we’ve ever had.  Our principals are amazing.  Our teachers are super awesome.  Our students…THE REASON we do what we do!

Personally, I’ve felt pride and honor in teaching students, joy in working with co-workers and happiness in living the life of a Clawson.

My own children have grown another year and they don’t cease to amaze me in the things they can do. God blesses me with more POSITIVES than I could have ever imagined!

Looking at memories of the year, of the last decade of just yesterday, I can say I KNOW time does slip by, but I say that in a positive light.  I do not mourn for yesterday.  I rejoice in the fact that yesterday happened and that today is happening and that tomorrow is gonna bring wonderful new things to add to my TIME here.

While traveling through, this world of sorrow,  I’m on my way to Gloryland.  I’ll not turn back for some tomorrow, my trails here–I’LL UNDERSTAND.

That is from the I WANT TO KNOW MORE song.  I see trials as just what we go through.  They may be positive or negative.  Either way, we will understand one day why it all happened and until then I will be in constant THANKSGIVING for it all!

Time does slip by!  …but oh what a wonderful ride it is!

What’s YOUR excuse?

Excuses, excuses…

I asked one of my friends last night if they were still going to the same church to which they replied,

“No. I just don’t have time.”

How much time does going to church really take though?

I know some churches still do Sunday morning AND Sunday evening services, then there are Wednesday evenings.  From my own personal observations, most people only attend Sunday morning.  So, say it’s just Sunday morning service you go to…you don’t even come early for Sunday School.  I’m not sure about all churches, but our service starts at 11 and is usually out about 12.  That is…ONE HOUR.  Add on get-ready time (which you have to get clothes on and stuff for the day anyway, right?) and then some drive time depending on where you go (and I am almost certain, there is a church close to you)….STILL, at the max–TWO HOURS, right?  ..and you don’t have time?

I’m not judging!  That is not my job.  I’m just trying to understand.  I wasn’t trying to pry into anything either.  I was simply asking.  They could have just said a simple, “No.”  I probably wouldn’t have asked another question.  I’m not the question asker, that is my better-half.  But them offering an excuse for not going got my mind spinning.

Then I remembered there was this song I heard once about EXCUSES.

Excuses, excuses, you’ll hear them every day.
And the Devil he’ll supply them, if the church you stay away.
When people come to know the Lord, the Devil always loses
So to keep them folks away from church, he offers them excuses.

In the summer it’s too hot. And, in the winter, it’s too cold.
In the spring time when the weather’s just right, you find some place else to go.
Well, it’s up to the mountains or down to the beach or to visit some old friend.
Or, to just stay home and kinda relax and hope that some of the kin folks will start dropping in.

Well, the church benches are too hard. And, that choir sings way too loud.
Boy, you know how nervous you get when you’re sitting in a great big crowd.
The doctor told you, “Now, you better watch them crowds. They’ll set you back.”
But, you go to that old ball game because you say “it helps you to relax.”

Well, a headache Sunday morning and a backache Sunday night.
But by work time Monday morning, you’re feeling quite alright.
While one of the children has a cold, “Pneumonia, do you suppose?”
Why the whole family had to stay home, just to blow that poor kid’s nose.

Well, the preacher he’s too young. And, maybe he’s too old.
The sermons they’re not hard enough. And, maybe they’re too bold.
His voice is much too quiet-like. Sometimes he gets too loud.
He needs to have more dignity. Or, else he’s way too proud.

Well, the sermons they’re too long. And, maybe they’re too short.
He ought to preach the word with dignity instead of “stomp and snort.”
Well, that preacher we’ve got must be “the world’s most stuck up man.”
Well, one of the lady’s told me the other day, “Well, he didn’t even shake my hand.”

Excuses, excuses, you’ll hear them every day.
And the Devil he’ll supply them if the church you stay away.
When people come to know the Lord, the Devil always loses
So to keep them folks away from church, he offers them excuses.
So to keep them folks away from church, he offers them excuses.

I know that song may list some things we have all done instead of going to church.  I’m not pointing any fingers!  If I were doing that, I’d be pointing at myself.  I believe the song creates the list to exaggerate the fact that we all have goofy excuses why we don’t attend a church.

OHhhhh and before you go getting huffy about this blog today… I know a lot of people believe in God, but don’t go to church.  I have friends who love Jesus, but just don’t have a church family.  I understand that people take that stand…

I really don’t know personally.  When I didn’t go to church, I didn’t really know Jesus.

PERSONALLY…I just enjoy church and LOVE my church family.  I have so many friends that I wouldn’t have if I had not gotten into church.  I wouldn’t have known I could really carry a tune in a bucket if I hadn’t of gone to church.  I get to sing a lot of places now.  I learned how to fellowship with other Christians and I continue to learn so much in studying the Bible with others.  I love LOVE and church is just another place to give and receive it.  I could go on, but I think I’ve said enough.

What’s YOUR excuse?

Today will never come again…

Just think about it.  I know we may have days that are similar, but this day that you just had will never happen again.  You can’t bring it back, relive it or fix anything about it.  Do what is right NOW… help others.  The of others first.  Encourage and lift up.  LOVE.

You never know when your last chance to show love to someone will be!

I’m so proud to be a REBEL.

MY SATURDAY MORNING FB POST:

So proud of THE REBELS–all of them–not just one kid…not just one team…all of them. So honored and blessed to work at OCHS. If you look back, my posts, WIN OR LOSE, say good things about our students. I’m always a fan, always a REBEL. #RebelPride #SchoolSpirit #Forever

I’ve been a Rebel since about 1976 when I first stepped into Mrs. Lynn’s class.  She was so intimidating and scary.  She taught me though.  I learned.  I eventually realized even though she was very strict, she loved us.  That is what a teacher does.  They love.

Here I am many, many, many years later teaching at the same school I graduated from.  Through those years, I was a rebel in so many different ways, but always a loyal Rebel even when I taught at a different school with a much different mascot.

There have been several students come through my classroom here at OCHS.  They come in all different shapes, sizes, learning abilities, strengths, weaknesses, talents, attitudes, character, and so on.  Some, actually most, have insecurities I recall having when I was their age.  Others have strong opinions about events, other students and classes they take–and they don’t mind voicing them.  I remember being that exact same way as well.  ((I know yesterday’s post was a little negative about the strong talkers, but I know I was once right there–“wasting my time.”))

However they come, I love them.  I support them.  I hope to teach them more than what the class is called.   I hope to show them things about life that if not understood now, perhaps, one day they will remember.

Our football team is on a major winning streak right now.  If you know anything about Texas football, you know that is a big deal.  Win or lose, though…I’m proud of all of our students who are involved at our school –from the player to the fan, the athlete to the scholar.  They are all important.  Period.

…and no matter what…

I’m so proud to be a REBEL.

Ain’t NOBODY got time for that!

I’ve written about grudges before.

They are ugly, nasty, vile things that no one should hold on to.

It’s been compared to holding a hot coal in your lap…who’s that burning!?

The person  you have the grudge against could probably care less…unless they are carrying one that is of equal strength against you.

BUT WHY?!

Why is that an important thing to do?  Don’t you have other things you could be using your time for?  You may be talking to this blog right now saying, I don’t waste any time on the grudge I’m holding.  HA!  I beg to differ—YOU DO!  You think about it–that is time.  You probably talk about it to others–WASTE OF TIME.  You may see that other person’s face or name and your body cringes.  You might have thoughts of violence.  You might just want them to trip a little or have a bad day.

Whatever the case…IT’S WASTING YOUR TIME!

Your grudge is not seriously hurting the one you have it against, but it IS SERIOUSLY hurting you.  It’s clouding your mind and making holes in your heart where there could be sprouts of love and understanding.  The fact that you are holding on to it like it’s something precious, is kind of sickening.  Think long and hard… and pray about it.  God will open your eyes to what it really is.  He will turn it the color it is and allow to realize the time you have wasted on it.

Do it..right now!

ASAP!

Because really, truly…AIN’T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR A GRUDGE!

Just sayin’.

moments

From Luke 18:

photo

Just imagine having a meal with one of your best friends for the very last time today.  Right now.

What would you eat?  That doesn’t even matter does it?  If you KNEW it was the last time you saw them, you’d be more concerned with WHAT you could share and you’d make certain they knew you loved them. You might look them in the eyes more, ask them more personal questions and savor the time (not the food) you get to enjoy with them. You’d make sure the moments you were having are full of love, laughter and life.

You can never be certain what moment may be your last chance to tell others you love them…you are sorry..you care about their opinion.

What if your friend KNEW it was their last time with you?  AND THEY TOLD YOU THIS!?!  They could predict the future…but you didn’t hear them, you didn’t understand what they were saying or maybe you just didn’t accept it and refused to listen.

Jesus did this …He told his disciples, but they didn’t understand what He was trying to tell them.  This is so sad to me.  Maybe God didn’t want them to know so they wouldn’t treat Jesus any differently?  Or maybe He wanted to spare them the pain and absolute confusion it would stir up, not that once it did happen there wasn’t utter chaos, but perhaps God thought this would shelter them for a little longer.  I mean, they were just humans, how could they REALLY understand???  Just like we all don’t truly understand things until we are personally a part of it.

One lesson, I believe, we should get from this is to LISTEN. TRULY LISTEN. Don’t take life and people for granted. You never know when you won’t see someone again or how a once in a lifetime chance may zoom on by because you weren’t paying attention.

Life is not about how many moments you have, but what you do with the ones God allows you to have.

What will you do with the ones you have…left?

HE does it ALL THE TIME!

count_your_blessings2

God blesses us all the time.

We are just dumb and can’t see it.

Blind.

We look the wrong way.

We think our blessings are CIRCUMSTANCES.

We refer to good things as luck.

We are not “lucky” …we are BLESSED.

He blesses us.  He does it ALL THE TIME.

We had a guest preacher  today who talked about living in the spirit.   The spirit cannot be controlled, cannot be seen and we don’t know where it comes from or goes.  We must be guided by it. We cannot go the way we think and then consult our God.  We must constantly listen to HIM.   ((The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.  -JOHN 3:8))

He also had so many examples of how God protects and provides for us.  We just have to rely on Him.   I have many stories that are so similar to the ones he told us today.  I talk about them all the time to family, friends, students and basically anyone who will listen.  I’m going to do my best to share a few this week with this blog.

BLESSINGS ARE BLESSINGS and we view them as such.

In that same chapter of John–Jesus is talking to Nicodemus about how we must be BORN AGAIN.  We MUST be born of The Spirit.

Once we are born again …the blessings we called circumstances and luck before should never be referred to in that way.  They are true blessings from God. They always were—IT’S ALL ABOUT HOW YOU LOOK AT IT.   Now, we have the spirit who guides us.  Before we were without a true direction even though we may of thought we had it all together.  You can’t TRULY have it “all together” without believing, being born again and allowing the spirit to guide you.   We can live our life to the fullest when we allow those things to happen… because God did that for us!

…and HE DOES IT ALL THE TIME!
