If you’re happy and you know it…

You know that song… sing it with me:

If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands. (clap clap)
Just thinking about that song makes me think of younger years when we liked to act a whole lot more silly than we do now.  I still like to act silly, but it’s frowned upon by my age peers.  I guess that is why I teach, but even some of the high schoolers I teach are “too old” to have fun anymore.  Some think I’m just the crazy art teacher.  I’m good with that.  It’s guaranteed that they will remember me!
Are you needing some fun today?
Don’t you remember finger painting, playing in the mud and riding a bike?  What are the things you thought of when you jumped out of the bed in the summer time –usually way passed 10 or even passed noon?
I always thought of who I was going to play with that day.  What friend could I coax out of the a/c to run the roads with?  What kind of fort could we build that day out of sticks or pine straw or just piles of dirt.  Could we create the perfect floor plan for my future mansion?  Would my dad let us ride in the back of the truck later (when he got home from work) to the local store to get a coke and some peanuts or even some chocolate?
I never ever worried about unloading the dishwasher, making my bed or paying bills.  I never thought of the vitamins I needed to take or what shoes would be comfortable to wear today.  I never concerned myself with dusting (gag!), what I was going to cook for dinner or any type of national news.
I know times change and you are like, what is the point?  I’m not sure what the point is really.  Maybe I will get to it in a minute.
I know as adults we have different responsibilities and different mindsets.  We have deadlines and “bigger fish to fry” as they say.  (yes, some say that)  We are concerned with things that we never even knew about as a kid.
I’m not saying all this so we can neglect our important obligations and go ride a bike or make a mud pie.  I don’t really like to touch mud anymore (that’s another story).
I am just saying…
Sometimes we need to dress up like a cow on COW APPRECIATION DAY @Chick-fil-a and eat some free nuggets!  Don’t be scared to have some crazy-people are
going to look at you like you have lost all your marbles-kind of fun.   Maybe this doesn’t include face paint,  a white shirt with big black spots, floppy ears or singing IF YOU’RE HAPPY AND YOU KNOW IT to a restaurant full of people…
Maybe you just need to de-stress by worrying less.
Perhaps you need to ride a bike.  I’d say borrow the neighbor kid’s bike, but a lot of kids don’t have bikes these days.  I hate that for them, because riding down a hill with the wind in your face is a very awesome experience.  I know why dogs like to stick their heads out of the window going down the road!
Get up where you are now and do some jumping jacks like you did in elementary PE class.  If that don’t make you laugh …or even pee a little… you need more drastic measures.
Or maybe you just need to sing the song…
but make sure you tell your face to show it!  Smiling alone can turn not only a frown upside down, but a day away from “Ug” to “WooooHoooo!”

If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands. (clap clap)

WORRY, WORRY, WORRY!

Anybody remember that song from a popular country style variety show of the 70s?  Kornfield Kounty was a hoot!

I remember singing this song right along side, “Where OHHHHHH Where are You Tonight????”

Today was a day full of pushing worry away.  I felt the gloom, despair and agony taking over my mind!  Don’t worry, I didn’t need “the jug” like those guys have in the video.  Haha!

I am right smack dab in the middle of a situation here!  It’s one of those that just lends itself to uncertainty and unknowns.   I have faith and definitely want to KEEP THE FAITH.  I know God has it covered.  He will provide whatever is needed in the days, weeks…months to come. I know this!  I hold on to this!  I take comfort in His word, provision and guidance.  I would be so lost without HIS promises.

Here’s the thing…

I admit sometimes, that even though I know God’s got me, worry creeps up and my mind starts going down roads of concern and anxiousness.  I don’t mean to!  It is truly not intentional.  I like to walk on the BRIGHT SIDE, see the silver lining and think happy thoughts.  Worry just happens!  Then I find myself mentally shoveling it away again like one would clean out a horse stall.  I did that for a neighbor of mine when I was young until the horse stepped on my foot one day.  That was the end of that.

Let me focus again… SEE!  My mind wonders off the straight and narrow …SQUIRREL!!!

I’m getting to the point.  Worry, worry, worry…

Throughout this day, while I was working on pushing the worry out of my mind, God kept sending me messages through so many things.  Check this…

JUST NOW, as I’m writing this blog, my friend sent me this quote: “Worry is the enemy of faith.”  Yes!

And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things? (Luke 12:26 NLT)  That’s just ONE verse that talks about worry in the Bible.  There are many others.  I promise, go look!   Woo Hoo!

I listened to Dr. Charles Stanley this evening while exercising and part of his sermon was about worry.  Amen!

I went to evening service tonight and Dr. Teddy Ott discussed worry.  Hallelujah!

I am audibly saying this while I type, “I know GOD… Thank YOU!”

He knows I don’t normally obsess over things.  I’m for the most part, an optimist.  I like wearing rose-colored glasses!

BUT TODAY…He knew I needed all of these things to help me remember that I DO NOT need to worry.  I don’t need to waste my time worrying about things that really, seriously, will either NEVER HAPPEN or even if they do, I can’t do a thing about.

I never ever need to sing that Hee Haw song!

There’s no gloom, despair or agony on me!

THANK YOU GOD!

Love what you Do, Do what you LOVE

This month is THE MONTH we see hearts and cupids and red and pink—I think it’s funny how all the pink and red look so good in the store displays and on those gushy cards, but if you were to wear those two colors together –people would think you are definitely an 80s child or just have a big fashion catastrophe going on OR MAYBE you are trying out to be a cupid in one of those store windows???

THIS is the LOVE month—in a WILL YOU BE MY Valentine sense where we ask others to “BE MINE” or give them cute little candy messages that say “U-R-COOL” OR “HOT MOMMA.” (Hot Momma is my fave! haha!)

But instead of just using this month to celebrate our love for one another and think about how we should love more—why don’t we do this all of the time?!?  Love is important ALL OF THE TIME, right?

This is a tough month for me—I am a solar powered person.  The fact that we have had about 5 straight days with very little sunlight is painful to me.  It’s hard for me to keep my sunny attitude during this time when there IS– NO– SUN!  But I hang on to the fact that LOVE is something that can’t be frozen –it is an ever present thing even when the sun is not shining.

…singing now…

The sun’ll come up tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar that tomorrowwwww…there’ll be sun…

God wrote that song for me especially for days like these.  I don’t know if the sun will be out tomorrow (probably not here), but I keep in mind that it is still shining!

So, there are things that get us down.  For me, the lack of sun can do it.  For you, it probably something else like…???

How do we get over these things and remember to love ALL THE TIME?

Keep on loving no matter what!

You’ve heard DON’T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF?

That seems like a cliché thing to say or something you hear people say, but don’t really mean.

BUT REALLY—

This is so important in keeping your LOVE attitude.

Circumstances creep up on us and we get all stressed out and flip our lids…but you can’t let rule you.

In my line of work, “small stuff” comes in form of a 16 year old (or so) child who whines because I make them draw and color in my class.  REALLY!?  We even finger paint sometimes!  It’s not rocket science.   My class should be a class they enjoy and allow their minds create and imagine.  I think after about age 10, students forget that they are awesome artists… and then they come in my class declaring they can’t draw a straight line or make a stick figure.  I wish I had a true tally on how many times I heard either of those statements.  Oh! But I’m getting off my topic a little…

IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT ATTITUDE, no matter what small (or even big) annoyances we have—we can enjoy everything.

And this takes a lot of LOVE for somethings, some instances and especially in the case of some people.  Loving those that annoy us is the hardest,  BUT WE GOTTA DO IT! — if we want all of our months to be full of love.

We have to stop letting little things bother us and be happy.

Love those around you even if it takes a lot of tongue biting and prayer.

To make more room for LOVE ya gotta get rid of worry.

DON’T WORRY –BEEE HAPPY—another popular saying thanks to that song from, I believe, the 80s.  Remember the whistle in it?

Here’s a little song I wrote—

(Remember some of the lyrics:)

… in every life we have some trouble, when you worry you make it double. ..don’t worry, be happy!

Worry is from the devil.  It stops you from showing the love you need to show and most of the time, receiving the love you need.

You know when you worry it’s hard for people to love you.  Most of the time it makes you grumpy and grouchy.   I know when something big is coming up in my schedule that I may be a bit apprehensive about…I get a little crazy.  I try my hardest to keep it in perspective and keep a smile on my face.

STRESS AND WORRY are two major things you have to get rid of in order to allow LOVE to lead you life.  You can’t love what you do and do what you love if you are stressed and worried about what you do.

In Matthew 6 it says DO NOT WORRY ABOUT TOMORROW, IT WILL TAKE CARE OF ITSELF.  YOU HAVE PLENTY TO WORRY ABOUT TODAY.

In other words: live in today.  Take care of now.  Do not worry about tomorrow or what is coming, take care of the present!

The definition of worry is TO TORMENT ONESELF WITH OR SUFFER FROM DISTURBING THOUGHTS –OR TO FRET.

Who in the world wants that!?  EWW.

Some may say, “I’ve always been a worrier.”  To that I say SO!…anyone can reform.  I believe that with LOVE anyone can become a better person, a better teacher, spouse, mom, dad– HUMAN BEING.

Get rid of that stuff that clouds your mind and slows you down.  Make more room for LOVE.  Love what you do even when it’s something that you don’t normally enjoy.  Go at it with an attitude of love.

BE BLESSED in the fact that you can show a CAN DO ATTITUDE AND KEEP ON KEEPIN’ ON.  Don’t let things of your world get you down …get a perspective of LOVE!

Yes, I’m yelling all this:

LOVE YOUR SPOUSE EVEN WHEN HE ASKS YOU WHY YOU HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER BOTTLE OF FINGERNAIL POLISH SINCE YOU ALREADY HAVE 200 BOTTLES STORED IN A RUBBERMAID TUB UNDER YOUR BED. (Just because he doesn’t support your addiction, doesn’t mean you can’t still love him!)

LOVE YOUR BOSS EVEN WHEN HE GETS THE STUDENT OFFICE AIDE TO BRING ALL THE CONTENTS OF YOUR MAILBOX DOWN TO YOUR ROOM AND PUTS IT IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR DESK, BECAUSE IT WAS TOO FULL TO PUT ANOTHER THING IN.  (This was actually kind of funny and he still denies he had anything to do with it—blames it all on the student. I still love him …and the kid too.

LOVE THE FLAT TIRE YOU GET ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE WHERE YOU CAN’T EVEN GET OUT OF THE CAR AND YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO RESCUE YOU.  LOVE IT THO, BECAUSE YOU KNOW THAT IT WILL HOLD AIR AGAIN EVENTUALLY AND YOU ARE BLESSED TO HAVE A VEHICLE (…because some don’t.)

You know, I heard a saying this past weekend –at church, I believe:

I hated the fact I didn’t have a good pair of shoes until I saw someone who didn’t have feet.

Wow, is that putting something in perspective!  Look to what you HAVE, not what you “have not.”

Look to the blessings you have in your life and LOVE WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU ARE DOING…

That is the only way you can make EVERY MONTH a love month.

It might not always be PINK AND RED and full of cheesy sentiments (On cards that cost like 5 bucks!) …but it will be full of love!

LOVE WHAT YOU DO, DO WHAT YOU LOVE!

We are not guaranteed another single second in this world.

I know that sounds a bit of a downer to start this blog with, but IT’S TRUE!

We don’t remember this enough. We don’t keep in mind at all times that the people around us are IMPORTANT and that whenever we see them, it might be the last time. We are so prone to look out for #1. We take care of us and don’t constantly seek out ways to comfort others. I mean, some of us try and try really hard to do so, but as the selfish humans we are, self-gratification is at the top of our list.

Think of the person closest to you being gone from this world. It can happen at any moment. I have a friend who just lost her husband. They were the cutest couple. They have two beautiful little girls. It’s so sad. My heart absolutely hurts for her and her family. I’ve been crying and praying for a couple of hours now.

This really put life in a clearer perspective for me this morning. It’s so short! We really need to do as much as we can while we are here, but what do we need to do? Worry? No. Fret, yell, freak out, gripe? …NO.  Get revenge, show anger, grump? NO!

I concern myself with so many DIFFERENT things and for what?  We all worry. Why? We gripe at our kids, spew hate at those around us especially those closest to us and rant and rave about things that seriously DO NOT MATTER.

The only things we should concern ourselves with is being centered in God and loving those around us. I know things have to be done, deadlines met and errands run, but our most important jobs in this world are those two things: GOD and LOVE. If only we could keep our eyes pointed that way all the time and live each moment in that, life would be so much MORE–not only for you, but those around you.  If we can do that  purposely and intensely, then when people who we truly show love to leave this world, of course we will be sad, but we will know that we did all we could while they were here.

Live each moment for GOD and with Love.

((Note: please remember that most all of my blogs like this are letters to self, truly, but perhaps you need the message in the letter today too.))

He WILL PROVIDE

In the mornings, I like to get up early and walk. Sometimes it’s on a treadmill and other times its outside. Either way, I’m up and talking to God. I thank Jesus for all He did for all of us. I just count my blessings and pray for the day.

No matter what the day brings, I try and keep this thankful attitude through it all. I don’t worry about the weather or what I’m going to need that day. The Lord has shown me over and over that He gives me everything that is required for any situation.

Today was no exception. He provided our mission team with everything. He had planned for the exact amount of crafts for my presentation. And when I forgot a small yet important part of the craft for the evening session, he put an adjusted project in my head. I love the blessings of adversity and talent he pours out. HE never ceases to amaze me. I’m so blessed!

I’m excited to see all the provisions He will supply us with tomorrow. It’s so exciting!!!

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: -2 Corinthians 9:8

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
Lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him
And He will direct your path.
-Prov. 3:5-6

How to be a HAPPY CAMPER!

(Infomercial voice used here) Hello friend!  Do you want to be a happy camper?  Are you tired of frowning?  Life got ya down today?  Well, let’s go over ways to become a HAPPY CAMPER!

BECAUSE YOU TOO CAN BE A HAPPY CAMPER!

happy-camper1

You really don’t have to go camping to be a happy camper, but you may have to pack a bag.  Your bag should be filled with things that aid in your happiness.  You should always be prepared!  Being prepared to be HAPPY is most important.   Admit it, when you are prepared in any situation, it just makes life BETTER!  So…

Let’s pack our bags full of:

POSITIVE THOUGHTS!

Articles that warm our hearts.

Videos that make us smile even when we don’t even realize it.

Pay it Forward Activities.

SMILES! (essential!)

Notes, quotes and other tidbits that remind us that life is good!

HUGS!

Confetti! (I prefer it over glitter.)

CUPCAKES!

Ok, cupcakes might not be your thing, but I think you get the picture.  Whatever is in your bag, it should be something that will help you and remind you and encourage you.  Never pack your bag full of regret and deceit.  Don’t stash some worry in there.  Don’t wrap up and hide your concerns and woes.  Throw anger and ill-feelings in the trash or better yet,

FLUSH THEM DOWN THE TOILET!  Get rid of all that.

Your road to HAPPY CAMPER-NESS should be easy if you only look to the things that make you HAPPY.

YOUR bag needs to be full of things that put a smile on your face and a skip in your step!

I promise you, when you can BE PREPARED to be happy…it’s so much easier.

AND YOU TOO CAN BE A HAPPY CAMPER!

An idea: I keep a HAPPY FILE in my desk at work.  This file is filled with award certificates, small drawings and notes, cards and even emails I’ve printed out.  They are reminders that I am doing a good job and that I AM LOVED.  If I ever get to the point where I feel as if I am not being appreciated or just exhausted over life in general, I whip out this file.  Most of the times it makes me cry, but it breaks down the funkiness I have somehow built and paves the road to sunshine again!  I love my HAPPY FILE—it keeps me prepared and always ready to be a HAPPY CAMPER!

WORRY!

I had to share this everywhere I could.  I’ve never thought about it like this…
